Re: OT - hunting TX - Sabine Natl Forest Nov 22-24 & Dec 12-14
If I go it will be for the December hunt--I am already locked into something for that weekend in November. I understand you guys are talking about two separate places on the different dates, right?

Re: 45-70 in Browning? modern Lever action ?
Browning (maybe Miroku?) made a modern production 1886 lever in .45-70. Not sure what years they were made.

Re: Honey Creek Hog
What county did you drop that rooter in? I think the whole state is covered up in them. I agree with you that anything over 60-80 lbs. is pushing it for meat quality, unless you like your sausage full of sage to mask the gaminess. My brother always says the 'football sized ones' are the best eating-...

Re: Newbie - Question, Price check
Gunbroker can be used as a good reference on the 'going rates' for various items. You have to remember to add back in the hidden costs you don't see on the Gunbroker price: shipping, FFL transfer fees, etc. when making comparisons.

How is the non-lead hunting thing in Cali working? What kind of bullets are being used?

Re: MOVIES - "The Comancheros" (lots of leverguns)
The rifles aren't the only inaccuracies in The Comancheros. A great deal of the terrain purported to be Texas in that movie isn't very accurate either.
It was still fun to watch, though.

If they are synthetic leather (i.e. rubber/plastic) as you say, you don't really need to oil them with mink oil or similar. Just wipe 'em clean.

Re: OT-getting old?
I sold my Dodge diesel of nine years just a couple of weeks ago. I very nearly had to go stand out back for a while to regain my composure afterwards. I had been coast-to-coast in that truck. Slept in it, under it and next to it. Driven on the beach, in the desert, in the mountains, in the swamp...A...

Re: Prayers for Grandmother
I am deeply sorry for your loss. Please take comfort in knowing she is in a better place. There is a special place in heaven reserved for grandmothers.
My own grandmother has been gone over seventeen years, and I still miss her terribly.

On the off chance that 13 is an unlucky number, you might ought to just go get one more. Just to be on the safe side.

Re: OT- The St. Francis Dam
I used to live at the mouth of San Francisquito Cyn, right near where the Harey Carey ranch was located (and where yet another subdivision exists today). I have hiked, biked and panned up and down San Francisquito Cyn a few times, and driven it countless times. There are definitely some chunks of co...

Re: LOOSING MY MIND
Wow. That's tragic. I'd make sure that 'gunsmith' gets plenty of bad press in your community...after you get your guns back. A call to the local Better Business Bureau might prevent the next guy from enduring tomorrow that which you are today.
