Re: Winchester 1892 New Tang Safety Model
The 1892 in .357 Magnum is an outstanding choice. It's cheap to shoot and plenty of power for a whitetail if you hunt. The recoil is minimal. I replaced the rear sight with a Skinner barrel mount peep sight. It's a lot easier for old eyes to shoot and retains most of the traditional look and feel of...

Re: Choosing a CCW weapon ...
My EDC is a SIG P220 Carry, .45 ACP. It is not a "jam-o-matic". Compared to a revolver, it is easy to conceal and easy to shoot well. It is more than enough for any two-legged predator. It has twice the power of .38 SPL and less felt recoil. For something pocket-sized, a Springfield XDs, a...

Re: Ultrasonic cleaners?
Any large gun shop (Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc) which carries ultrasonic cleaners has solutions to get the job done. Hornady products are good. There are two general types, for case cleaning and parts cleaning. They are concentrates, so it only takes a tablespoon for a half-gallon bath. I use Simple Gre...

Re: A most unusual 1873 Winchester
I was watching that program, and had to laugh out loud when I saw that nondescript rifle portrayed as a "Winchester 1873, the gun that won the West". It's not even a lever gun. A short time later they showed another "1873" rifle next to a Colt 1873 SAA "Peacemaker", whi...

Re: Anyone on here into photography?
One of the best forums is www.photo.net. I've been a member for over 10 years, with many posts. If you would like to know more about new equipment, www.dpreview.com is a good site. You're probably not interested in taking pictures of your guns (LOL), but just in case, "Light - Science and Magic...

Re: Uberti .45 Colt revolvers
Colt SAA, Uberti SAA clones and the Ruger New Vaquero are not rated for +P .45 Colt, much less .44 Magnum. The maximum pressure is on the order of 13,500 (SAAMI), whereas .44 Magnum is close to 40,000. If you want to push the envelope, use a Ruger Blackhawk, or possibly an older Vaquero, which was o...

Re: Anyone on here into photography?
For travel pictures, think about what you are seeing, and what makes it interesting. Shoot those things which make it interesting. Keep it simple, don't try to get everything in one shot. On a trip to Prague, I think I took a picture of every medieval door and latch in the city (among other things)....

Re: Night Sights
I have installed both Trijicon and Meprolight sights. Both are made well, but there are differences to be considered. Meprolight sights are brighter than Trijicon, and have a wide white ring around the capsule. In dim light or against a dark background, the white ring helps sight acquisition and ali...

Re: A clean burning pistol powder?
It's hard to beat Unique as a forgiving, all-around pistol powder. Unique likes to burn hot, and burns dirtly mainly in light loads. The trick seems to be loading hotter than the mid-range given in tables like Lyman 59th Ed. As usual, work up carefully, looking for signs of pressure. Light loads wit...

Re: Using a sling to steady an offhand shooter?
I put a Turner 1907 style sling on my Marlins. It makes them easy to carry and serves as a shooting aid when time and circumstances permit. If you carry the rifle muzzle down on the weak arm shoulder, you can bring it to battery and form an hasty sling in one motion. I doubt there is enough barrel d...

Re: Putting the "22 Rimfire Ammo Shortage" Into Perspective
I own several .22 rifles and handguns, which I like to shoot and let my grandchildren shoot. Once upon a time, I would buy a couple of boxes or a brick at the LGS before heading to the range. Now I can't count on finding anything, so when I come across a brick, I buy it. I suppose I have three brick...
