Re: Restoring a 1894 Takedown...

Actually, the shortened barrel / rifle forearm isn't an issue. I believe that Winchester made a 'Short Rifle' with the rifle front stock and a 20" barrel. Rossi makes a '92 version and Cimarron has a short rifle in their 1873 line.

Re: Using open sight 30-30 for first time.. Dang that gun SHOOTS

At 62 yrs with fair to poor eyesight, I find that a tang sight really can sharpen up the front sight on my 24" levergun. I also use a receiver peep sight on my little Henry 22lr. I'm a convert to peep sights now and even 200yd to 300yd shots at paper aren't nearly as intimidating as they once w...

Now, I'm a pretty big guy and I don't think I've eaten enough pretzels to fill those jugs in my 66-years. I must admit that I didn't eat all those pretzels myself but rather I'd take them into work for my staff meetings. It sure keeps the guys quite if they have something to munch on. Besides, most...

20' Diameter Flying Saucer Is Over Denver, CO Now!!!!!!

All three major networks are showing a 20' dia flying saucer over Denver right now. It's clearly visible and being tracked by an ABC News helicopter. The Army National Guard is launching a helicopter to track it as it doesn't show up on radar. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/2009/1015/21307294_240X1...

I reload all my rounds in a given bullet weight the same, be they for practice or 'real' use because if 'practice makes perfect,' then practicing with the same loads that I'll use for real gives me the same muzzle blast and recoil as well as the same POI. That's why I don't see the use in practicing...

Go with an A4 upper the rear carry handle can be removed so that you have a flat top rail the up side is if some thing should happen to your scoop just slap the handle back on and you have your iron sights. 16-18 inch barrel with a 1:9 twist will do you fine for what you want. Much better approach ...

Re: Why didn't Winchester chamber the 35 Rem cartridge?

I'm guessing that with only .003" larger rim dia. than the cartridge base, Winchester may not have felt it's bolt / extractor design was adequate without some redesign. That would have made offering the 35 Rem. more costly.

It's amazing how that happens to us 'more seasoned' guys. Somewhere in the back of the safe is my last remaining bolt gun, a Winny Model 70 in 30-06 that I got back in 1961 when I was 14. I haven't even taken it out of the safe except to clean and oil it in over 20 years. Now if it were a Model 88, ...

. . . you can buy a Rossi, ship it off the NKJ, and get it 'tuned,' and spend almost as much as you would on a Browning or Winchester (Miroku) that will be a much nicer gun in the long run. OR you can buy a Rossi and Steve's $30 video, his extractor spring, safety plug, and metal magazine follower ...
