Early threaded stud 94 types still lay the ring against the receiver. Later (post war or '64?) types re-profiled the stud so that it no longer did that.

One thing to keep in mind - as with any smaller caliber weapon -- the longer the barrel the heavier (obviously) it will be. My Lady Smith 65-5 3" is identical to Bogus Bill's 66 - complete with beadblasted SS finish and full underlug/shroud -- except for my 65's fixed sight. His 66 and my 65, both hard to come by, are the best of the bunch IMO.
