One of the most glaring--because the whole show's co-star is the rifle--is Lucas McCain's '92 in 1880s New Mexico. One of my favorite shows nevertheless. I see they're careful to never--that I recall--refer to it as a '92 at least!

I've shot my friend's and recoil is negligible--even the heaviest loads (he had on hand, which were fairly warm)... as you might expect from a small bore'd large frame Vaquero. The downside, yes a very heavy gun with seven small holes--a lot of steel left--fore and aft.

A couple of people have posted positive comments about their 7.5" SA in .45 or .44-40 and therefore seemed to generalize regarding this length. There is a whole world of difference in felt weight and balance between those big bores and the .357 with all that extra metal surrounding 7 comparativ...

My opinion is that you're going to find the 7.5 very heavy. The .357 in 5.5 is no lightweight, so... I understand the "Cavalry" appeal, but my vote goes for 5.5" max.
