OT- Hodgdon Powder
Just putting an ear to the ground.....Is Hodgdon getting ready to unveil a new powder geared towards Levergun cartridges? The name I've seen floating around is "LVR".
Sounds appropriate enough. Just wondering if anyone knows anything else.

308 Winchester. Without question. More options on ammo. Great accuracy. Gentle recoil. Light rifles. It can handle animals up to 500 lbs with the proper ammo and appropriate range.
AND you can get it in a levergun !!!!

I'm not a cowboy at all...never will be. However I've seen TWO! Winchesters with the tang broken like that. Both were from the same sheephearder in Montana, different horses. Both were broken when the horse decided to roll around on the ground to scratch an itch. He carried the guns, sights up in th...

Re: Loading H322 in the 30WCF
I've used it with 150gr Speer Hot-Cor FSP , 31.4gr was the load. Not too shabby with accuracy....1.75-2.25" @ 100 yds. Velocity was right around 2250 fps from my Marlin with a 20" barrel. I now shoot 170gr bullets exclusively. If I ever go back to 150's that'll be the load I use. Thanks, Tom

Thank you all for your opinions and observations. I'm still in the looking around phase. However I may keep my 25-06 that I have been shooting as of late. I may even jazz up the performance with 100 grain Barnes TSX bullets @ 3300 fps or so. Maybe a rechamber to 25-06 Ackley Improved (AI)!...

m.wun, I think your findings are right on the money. I might add the the Remington 180 grain SJHP .357 bullet to that list to try. From my experience it gets about 14-16" of penetration and expands to about .45". The deer I've seen hit with this bullet (9) seem to drop within 20 FEET of wh...

Re: OT - One gun, one load?
Now that we are staying within the OP's original requirements. I'll rescind my suggestion of the 30-06 and go with the 6.5x55 Swedish.
Great cartridge, easy to load for, low recoil, low muzzle blast, and plenty of options in bullet weight (85-160grains)
Thanks, Tom

If you want to spend a little more you can shoot Hornady's new Superformance 95 grain SST load (3150fps) or Federal Premium 85 grain TSX load @ 3200 fps. Both are flat shootin' to be sure.
