Re: Levergun on safari
Thanks, Tom! I've posted the details of my gun before: http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21944 In brief, it's one of the guns originally supplied to the Russian czar before the revolution, i.e. year of manufacture is 1917. The original chambering is 7,62x53R which has been mo...

Levergun on safari
Hello fellows, Time to chime in after a long break. I've told you before about my customized m/ 1895 Winchester - well, it finally saw action in Namibia. I'm too lazy to re-write the post, so please, follow this link to AR's forum: http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6321043/m/532...

A short list of modern Westerns worth watching: (according to me... ;) ) Tombstone The Outlaw Josie Wales Unforgiven Silverado The Wild Bunch A-MEN!! I know Silverado by heart. Unforgiven always gives me the chills; especially the end scene. As one movie critic put it: "Clint Eastwood teaches ...

Re: The year is almost over, What have you have done this year?
HAD to chime in on this one! For once, I have actually been able to accomplish something... In Feb, met a nice lady -> had a dandy time. A couple of weeks back it became obvious it's going to friendship only (suits me), but another has kept "harassing" me so it ain't all too bad. They jus...

Re: New old toy
what caliber is that exactly? 8,2x52R i.e. necked-up 7,62x53R (a.k.a. 7,62x54R). Only known in Finland and only ever loaded by Sako. Not much unlike the German 8x57R which actually uses the same .323" bullet. Think of the 7,62x53R as a rimmed .308 and you're close. On another forum I was advis...

New old toy
Hello all! You remember my new toy? http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20435 ? Well, don't get shocked as it's still very much unmolested. I wouldn't fettle with an almost original-condition gun, now, would I? Fact is, I've bettered it by putting on the original sling which ha...

Hard to argue that one.86er wrote:To me, levergun CARTRIDGES that come to mind first are always those that aren't or are rarely offered in any other kind of rifle.
I'll nominate the 7,62x53R, however; being a model 1895 man as I am.

New Toy
Already posted this @ the accuratereloading.com forum so some of you may want to skip this. To make a short story long, I have (or actually my father has) a modified model 1895 Winchester which has been re-chambered in 8,2x53R in the 1950's due to the then hunting laws. I took the gun to the 'smith'...

Nope, but you'll find it http://kwk.us/cases.htmlcrs wrote:285.43 - 210.25 = 75.18 grains of water.
For what it is worth, the Chuck Hawks case capacity table has no entry for the .405 Winchester.

Re: 1895 405 takedown purchase
Interesting. Thanks for the pics, abcollector. Is that a factory-made take-down or has the gun been converted? I'm having mine converted and me and the gunsmith are thinking of various models and the execution thereof. Likely the gun will have a full thread (i.e. the barrel needs to be rotated a ful...
