Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
I didn't compare the extractor lengths, unfortunately. I get the sense that the extractor was too stiff or too floppy (or both at various times in the life of the rifle) and was interfering with the case head settling on the correct location of the bolt face. Possibly, if the extractor was too flopp...

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I wanted to add a bit more information in order to contribute to the greater knowledge base should anyone have the same problem and stumble across this post on Google. The polishing/breaking of the chamber edges certainly ameliorated to the problem, I no longer ex...

Winchester 94 action question
Hi guys, I just retrofitted my Winchester 94ae with a half cock hammer and trigger group. I haven't used a original action Winchester 94 before, so I just want to check that everything's working as it should. The trigger is pretty/very floppy, but it's functioning, so I understand that that's probab...

Re: Rebarreling a 94AE?
Thanks guys. Having slept on it, rebarreling is over complicating the matter since I can't find a 38-55 AE barrel. I'm going to send it off to JES for a rebore.
Any advice on how many rifling cuts to get?

Re: Rebarreling a 94AE?
I guess the real question is, will an XTR AE barrel screw into a regular AE carbine? I can get an XTR AE barrel in 375 Winchester from Numrich for a song. If I could just have that screwed into my receiver, maybe lengthen the chamber to true 38-55 specs, that seems like the easiest course of action.

Rebarreling a 94AE?
Hi guys, I've been rolling over some potentially over complicated ideas in my head, but humor me please. I've got a 94ae in 30-30 which has given me some problems chambering rounds, you can probably find the post in my history. It's largely resolved now, but I can feel resistance occasionally. I've ...

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
Hi Guys, I just wanted to give this case a little bit of closure. I used a 1/4" square fine India stone I had laying around to "round off" the rear of the chamber (not as drastic as it sounds). The rifle now feeds much, much more reliably and the occasional hangup can be fixed by appl...

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
Well, whatever I did today didn't fix the problem. I used fine (1500 and 1000 grit) sandpaper wrapped around a dowel to try and polish or break the edge of the upper-rear of the chamber. I loaded up some dummy rounds in sized and trimmed brass and still experienced the jamming. The dummy rounds are ...

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
Ok, thanks for the idea. I was hesitant to try polishing the chamber when Pete suggested it, but with more of a consensus now, I'll give it a shot after work.
Thanks to all for the advice and I'll let you all know how it works out.

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
After mulling this over I'm wondering if the previous owner didn's screw with the cartridge guides. Maybe the cartridge is being released too early (or late). Does anyone know of a guide/tutorial for tuning the cartridge guides? Maybe better, does anyone know of a good gunsmith who still knows the W...

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
I purchased the gun used and it has jammed with commercial ammunition too. The first 60 rounds I fired out of it were factory Winchester 150 gr and they jammed just the same as everything else. I can compress the ejector with my finger, but it is difficult to do so. The cartridge does not compress t...

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
Okay, here's a video of the jam to shed a little more light on the situation: https://youtu.be/Y4MCRPclozw First the action is worked empty, then slowly with snap caps, then briskly with snap caps. Hopefully that makes things clearer since describing exclusively through text can be challenging. I do...

Re: Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
The gun is chambered in 30-30.
If the rim is supposed to be under the extractor on feeding, then maybe I have a different problem. On my gun, the cartridge is only controlled by the extractor on extraction. It is merely push fed into the chamber, not under control of the extractor.

Winchester 94AE Failure to Feed
Hi there, I have a Winchester 94AE that has occasional feeding problems. The problem occurs when the action is closed forcefully. The gun feeds fine when worked slowly. It works fine when opened forcefully and then closed gently. The problem occurs with forceful(I would actually say "normal&quo...

Elmer Keith discussed in a recent podcast
Hi Guys, I had a friend of mine contact me and let me know that Elmer Keith was discussed in this week's Cracked podcast. I don't normally read or listen to Cracked, in fact, I don't really know how to even described Cracked. Anyway, this week's podcast is about the "Epic Lives of People You've...

Re: My pair to draw to.
Beautiful picture of that pair. As a lefty, the first thing I noticed (after the gorgeous guns, of course) was the lefty holster too. It seems in pictures or movies one of the first things I notice is when someone is a southpaw.

Leverguns and Squirrels
Okay, so maybe I lied in the title; not leverguns and squirrels , more like levergun and squirrel . I went out hunting today for the first time (not just this season, but in my life). It took me twenty five years to finally get around to it, but I am glad I did. It wasn't a wildly successful day in ...

Re: Quick Introduction
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I am actually a recent transplant to PA having spent the past few years in CA and CO, but I went to college here in Western PA and decided to come back for a while. My interest and appetite for leverguns and revolvers has far outpaced my ability to acquire them,...
