Re: a 50/95 but not a lever gun---ever see one of these ?

Wow - that is a cool rifle, you lucky dog :D What is the rate of twist on that barrel? It would be interesting to hear what Colt used compared to Winchester, Uberti and Chappy, and what bullets work best. FWIW, My Uberti 1876 .50-95 does well with Swiss 2F and a Rapine 350 bullet. http://i1277.photo...

Re: Any wannabe .44-40 reloaders out there?

1886 - not sure what you are trolling for here. Like many of the others, I'm no wannabe. I've been reloading .44WCF for nearly 30 years. Its a fine cartridge and one of my all time favorites. It is underrated by many and poo-poo'd by those who feel its too hard to reload. But in my view, there's not...

Re: Advice on a Remington Model 4 .22

I've got a .22 cal #4 that I had relined by Redman's many years ago. Its a tackdriver now. I've got another #4 in .32 that I converted to centerfire and shoot .32 long colt in. It has a fair bore, but it still shoots 1.5" groups at 50 yards. I'm currently working with a #2 rolling block in .32 ...

Well, I'm no machinist - far from it. I'm just an old time gun crank who has accumulated a few tools to further enjoy my hobby. The lathe is an old Atlas/Craftsman 12x24. Nothing big, but handy for many small chores like this. But making cartridges like this could be done in a drill press by clampin...

. Kudos, on closing up the RF firing pin hole in the breechblock - I didn't bother, so I could install another RF firing pin if/when someone like Navy Arms made up a batch of .32RF again. (I'm a dreamer) . I've never tried that ammo, but from what I've heard it was not very good anyway. I've been t...

I've got two #4s, one in .22 the other a .32. The .22 was shot out and I had Redmans reline it over 20 years ago. Its a tackdriver. The .32 I converted to centerfire many years ago, basically the same way described above. Its a pretty simple job. http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y493/ndnchf/BPCR/...

Re: Good Gunsmith for Winchester 92 Rebarrel?

FWIW - I had Redman's reline a #4 Rolling Block in .22 LR many years ago. They did a great job and it is a real tackdriver. Yes, John Taylor has a long wait. About 3 months ago I sent him a very nice 1873 Winchester carbine that has a bad chamber, but an excellent bore. He is going to put a new cham...

Re: Magtech brass shotshells components?

You'll need a punch of some sort to cut the wads. You can get by with locally sourced cardboard (cereal boxes, poster board etc) for wads and Duco cement for sealing them up. If you have access to a lathe, making a punch is easy. If not it will be tough. If nothing else, maybe you could sharpen the ...

That is cool. I can fully appreciate all the effort that goes into resurrecting a long obsolete rifle. I'm doing something similar with a Remington Rolling Block from around 1870. Its chambered for the .58 Roberts cartridge. Every heard of it? Not likely. Here's a couple photos of what I've been doi...

Yes, thanks its a fine looking rifle indeed. The fit and finish is top notch and it loads, fires and ejects flawlessly. Perhaps its only downside is its size and weight. It IS a beast. But that weight also helps to tame recoil.

Thunder & Lightening - Shooting the Uberti M1876 Winchester

Its been a while since I took my .50-95 Uberti 1876 winchester out for some exercise. But I went to the range yesterday and had a blast. It sure looks like a nice rifle. But I was they would have made it for a .44 centerfire cartridge of the same overall length as the original .44 Henry rimfire cartridge. The changes in the receiver they and Uberti made to accomodate the .44WCF and other rounds stick out like a sore thumb. A shortene...

A double barrel shotgun with a light load of birdshot is my preference. Will do much harm to an intruder at 10 feet, not to mention the visual impact of the sight of those two big barrels, and will penetrate multiple walls far less than a bullet.

I've been using a set of those for 25+ years and they are great. But get plenty of replacement pins and cut some short. You want the pin only long enough to do the job. Anything longer will be more likely to break.

Fishlures - is this the bullet mould you are using? http://www.buffaloarms.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=160196&CAT=4157 If so, I think the .432" major diameter may be too large and contributing to your chambering tightness. As fouling builds up with multiple shots, it may get worse. What is the gro...
