Re: What gun is the girl holding?

That's a good question. The receiver contours say "Rossi", and the magazine tube diameter says ".357 MAG". But the front sight isn't where I'm used to seeing Rossi place their front sights. When they're not part of the barrel band, they're usually behind it. Any other guesses?

Why only four rounds?

My Miroku-manufactured Winchester '95 SRC only holds four rounds in the box magazine. Most references online about the '95 state that it had a five round capacity. Is this four round limit because mine is in .30-06 instead of .30-40? I was shooting it at the range today and began thinking about that...

Re: Browning .45-70 short throat...

RELOAD! I considered reaming mine, but I never buy factory ammo anyway. So I ordered a Saeco #018 mold. This casts a 420 grain round-nosed flat point bullet with the entire nose section being land diameter, so the short throat is a non-issue. Only the driving bands are groove diameter. This bullet, ...

Re: Action strength again!

I've never heard of a broken bolt lug on a Mini 14. Can't say that it can't happen, but I've never seen it. From an action strength design, I think that the Mini 14 wins. Note that bolt material and heat treatment is critical with the AR-15. Most everyone has gotten it down pat now. But there was a ...

Well, now that you mention it, I have to correct myself. I didn't remove the cartridge guides, but I did consider briefly using a screwdriver bit that I could turn with a small box wrench; I've used that method before in tight spots and with pretty good success. But the screw slots looked awfully sh...

Pre-64 Model 94

So recently I realized that, without really intending to, I'd accumulated at least one model of each lever action rifle Winchester made--all except the ubiquitous model 94. Now some of my rifles are reproductions (because I can't afford original Henry's, Model 66's, or '73's), but when I realized th...

I have a Marbles tang sight on my Browning/Miroku SRC. I have to say that I'm not thrilled with it--or tang sights at all, which is what I discovered after mounting one. The Brownings didn't come drilled and tapped, and I had to drill right through the "B" in "Browning". I've com...

A higher end PC will usually last longer. I took a Del XPS M1710 laptop to Iraq in 2007. It was a top-of-the-line gaming laptop back then, and I remember that I paid a lot for it. It is showing its age and I don't expect it to last much longer. Also, it is only 32 bit, but it is still my everyday co...

Re: Miroku Winchester 95 SRC joy

A lot of folks opined that the .357 was just too high-pressured a cartridge to be used in an 1873 clone. But many of them have been made, and they seem to handle it just fine. There's pressure, and there's bolt head thrust, and the .357 doesn't seem to generate enough of the latter to damage the Ube...

You know, I honestly don't know how those scratches got there. I didn't even notice them until they showed up in the photographs. I don't know how one gets replacement parts from Miroku. I'm not even sure that they make many spare parts, and if they did, they wouldn't make them for long before discontinuing that model entirely.
