I've looked at those log cabin kits. Not all that different than the one my dad and uncle built in the early 50's. I started as a single room. Well, two if you counted a very small bath. My uncle was a wood worker who could and did everything from framing to very fine furniture. And dad could take i...

Walt, limping home doesn't always mean all the way home. Sometimes it means getting somewhere to get the parts to fix it or (Heaven forbid) to a shop that can fix it. But at least to the trail head. If you do need a tow, it's a lot cheaper from a trail head than out on the trail. What amazes me most...

Okay, the OP's pistol is a pre 1952 First Model. All had the same checkered walnut grip. There is one exception. The first 7 variations were walnut, the 8th was a checkered plastic grip. All of these had solid ribs. So if the grips are smooth, someone sanded them. The Second Model showed up in 1953....

The thing with automatics over manuals is that when you rebuild them you have to be a lot more attentive about keeping even the smallest debris out of an auto. Various ports and valves can either plug off or get stuck open by some really small stuff.

Only if I have both long and short guns in the same caliber. I think all could be used in either (I don't try to invent things not in manuals) but accuracy potential ( potential because I am the limiting factor) is better in one gun or the other.
