I thought I could gradually soften the alloy by constantly skimming the top leaving the heavier lead but it is still too hard. I dug out from deep storage a high standard leech & rigdon circa 1974 that is somewhat 1851ish. Although I did not actually weigh it, it seems quite a bit heavier than and fatter gripped than more recent pietta and uberti 1851s.

· 6.0 gr. Bullseye = 883 fps

I have some 325 gr. lees loaded over 5 gr. reddot.....but am hesitant to try them. This is out of a new model ruger.

In the 1988 version of the hounds of the baskervilles, brett/holmes ' used what looks to be an actual R.C. but hardwicke/watson's webley is ill-cast, being a bit before it's time but we're used to that in films, what with 1892s fighting the cheyene in 1876, etc......
