Re: .348 Winchester versus .45-70 in terms of recoil

The 348 rifle and the miroku 1886 rifle kick about the same. Full house loads in the 1886 do kick a bit more. The 348 stocks are too short, and my crescent stock on the 1886 are both not ideal for heavy loads, or shooting from a bench. Recoil energy is about the same as a 30-06 healthy load, but fee...

Re: Making Live Ammo From Blank Brass

I tried that back in 2000 or 2001. I can not remember the company that was selling the 45-70 line throwing brass, but I bought 200 or so. I loaded them with 405 grn bullets and 34 grns of IMR4198. I fired 10 of them, and all split to about 2/3rds the case length. They went into the trash bin.

Years ago, it didn't seem to matter. Factory sights didn't seem to matter. Factory sights, tang sights, scopes, all shot about the same for me. Another point, maybe. The twist, at least on the rifle, is 1 in 22''. I think this was considered express rifling for the lighter weight bullets of 300grn or so. Re: Need help/ideas from a Subaru crank...

You need to get the motor hot so it will not start. If you disconnect the small wire to the starter, there should be voltage there when you turn the ignition key, test the terminal with a voltmeter or test light. If there is no voltage there, the problem is most likely not your starter motor of sole...

When you say it will not start when hot do you mean it will not crank over? If so, do this test when hot and will not crank https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIgD4FvguYE If you still have voltage at the terminals, ie more than 12 volts, then the starter or solenoid is bad. ps. If you can get to the solenoid when hot, try putting power directly from the battery terminal to the solenoid. if it starts then the motor is ok, and the problem is with the solenoid, or wiring to the solenoid.

Heat in a starter or solenoid or wiring to the starter will cause increased resistance for the current to flow through that circuit. 1. Make sure the wires at the solenoid and starter have good clean connections. 2 It is possible that you may have just a sticking solenoid when hot. 3. The windings i...

If you want to shoot long range, you will need plenty of rear sight elevation. I went with the Marbles Improved tang sight, so that I can swap out the elevation staff as needed. The safety is not obscured by the sight. I have not shot with this sight yet, so I can not say how good it is.

.309'' neck id sounds fine. .307 would be borderline as a very tight neck to chamber clearance, and maybe even dangerous. Anneal the necks, then size 2/3 or 3/4 of the neck with your full length die adjusted accordingly, and see if it will chamber. If not you will have to size more and bump the neck...

Measure the inside diameter of the necks. If they are over .311'', then you may have an oversized chamber neck. This would cause overworking of the brass, and the splitting and powder marks on the necks. Anneal the necks. Take the fired brass and with your thumb on the back of the neck, push the cas...
