Re: Range Report - Original .45-75 Winchester 1876 SRC
Will you hunt with this old dog, or is it just for target fun? Johnny I'm not sure if I will hunt with it or not. These NWMP original carbines are very hard to find and horrendously expensive to acquire (this one cost me my four finest vintage Winchesters plus cash). So I might just hunt with my tw...

Re: Range Report - Original .45-75 Winchester 1876 SRC
Do you know who/unit it was issued to? I'd have to try it with black too. Just to see how good that was. The NWMP archives show that this serial number was "on charge" to C Division at Fort Battleford in 1894 and in another inventory done in 1897. Don Klancher, a retired Inspector with th...

Range Report - Original .45-75 Winchester 1876 SRC
Today I made a quick trip over to the range just down the road to try old and very obsolete caliber in a 139 year-old carbine with a rich history in western Canada in the 1880's and 90's with the Northwest Mounted Police Vintage Firearm: An original Winchester Model 1876 saddle ring carbine .45-75 ...

A hearty congratulations! It feels wonderful to finally acquire ones 'grail' gun. Mine was an original NWMP Winchester 1876 carbine and for the first several nights, it lay in an open case beside my bed. I'm sure it is a thrill to finally have your grail gun.

Re: I’m all for good ignition……but
My first gen Colt SAA (1882) was regularly punching through the primers like that as well. Fortunately, backing off the mainspring as much as I could fixed the problem in my case. It still hits them hard, but not quite hard enough to punch through.

Re: Modern toggle links
The toggle link action wouldn't be a good idea for cartridges such as the 30-06, but they are much stronger than most people think. Observe how the links go into a straight-on, 'lock up' when the cartridge is chambered and how the link pins are not actually taking the force when locked up. I've owne...

Developing a load for the 45-75 WCF - Report
I have finally been able to develop a load for my original NWMP Winchester 1876 SRC chambered in 45-75. I started to try to write it up here, with photos, but it was getting too untidy, so I wrote up a report, complete with photos, and you can download it here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YrL-tN...

Here is a photo of my Colt SAA Artillery, chambered in 45 Schofield, but loaded to the same bullet and ballistics as the 45 Colt. I don't have a letter for it, but the serial number dates it to 1882. It has been totally restored back to tight factory specs. I know this ruined the collector's value, ...
