Same fish. A 36" Pike is much smaller than that (my own record is a 36" Pike and it was much smaller than that. They are very good to eat and I've eaten countless Pike.

I have a question on the single ply of TP. The reason for it's use was to keep the powder back against the prime pocket for pressure spike reasons, reliable ignition, etc... The reason I use TP filler in many loads is twofold: 1. It keeps the powder against the primer, producing more consistent bur...

Here are some loads I used and chronographed in my original Winchester 1886 .45-90 (made in 1888) out a 26" barrel: 25.6 grains IMR 4227 and a sheet of 1-ply toilet paper filler under a 330 grain Gould bullet for 1,369 fps and an E.S. of 47 fps and an S.D. of 18 fps. 27 grains IMR 4227, no fill...

OT - Huge Northern Pike

The pike in the photos below was caught on the Winnipeg River, by Seven Sisters, in Manitoba - 55lbs-56 inches. Manitoba is the province where I grew up (and caught Pike ad nauseum ) in central Canada. The fellow in the photos below, caught a 36" Pike. As he was reeling it in, a 56" Pike c...

AmBraCol, first we have to take a special course and pass the exam. Then we apply for a license to possess a handgun. Then we have to join a pistol club. Then we pick out the pistol we want to buy and when it arrives, we obtain a permit to take it home. Then to take it to the club to shoot, we have ...

This Boomtown announcement is so bizarre, I have a hard time believing it is actually true. This has got to be an email joke. It was a university student that did it .... maybe the Boomtown gun show should prohibit university students from attending too. If this is actually true, then you wouldn't c...

Took the minister to the range today

The pastor of our church wanted to get together with me for coffee sometime, so I suggested going to the range, and then having coffee afterward. He really liked that idea. When he got there, he told me he'd only shot a gun once, 30 years ago when he was a kid. I started him off with my old Winchest...

Just for my curiosity, why did you adjust the front sight rather than the rear sight? I almost always center the front sight, then adjust the rear. Joe Joe, in this case, there were two reasons. First, the front sight looked slightly off center and the direction of adjustment also centered it. Seco...

I did load some up to around 1,900 fps, but the sharp 'crack' of the shot made my ears ring when I was hunting groundhogs. (I don't wear ear protectors when hunting.) 1,200 fps was much easier on the ears and still plenty for groundhogs.

Range report: Winchester Model 53 .25-20

My apologies to those of you who read this on the leverguns board, but for those who just hang out here, I thought I'd post this here as well. Spent the afternoon at the range Friday. Place was the most crowded I've ever seen what with a total of 5 shooters at our 12 benches. Usually, I'm the only p...

I still maintain that the grounds for an administration change should be the gross negligence which lead them to forbid properly trained citizens from carrying weapons of self protection on their campus. I doubt that the theives will even know what to do with Shiloh rifles. I just hate to think of all those fine examples of craftsmanship tossed in a dumpster somewhere. Single shot Shiloh's in obsolete or hard to find calibers aren't exactly what gang members are looking for.

I've discussed similar action in Ontario. First, do not email; write a letter ... hard copy is taken more seriously. You need to find out who makes the game laws. In our case, it is MNR, not the government legislature. Second, you need to find out several people who make these sorts of decisions and...

I would like to see Virginia Tech hit with a mind-staggering lawsuit by the victims' families for making it an offense to protect themselves. If some students had been able to exercise their 2nd ammendment right, a lot fewer people might have been killed.
