I think Uberti uses a chemical that produces an imitation CCH. The original bone and charcoal CCH results in a very hard surface that is difficult to scratch or wear. I wrecked a section on my file trying to file down a CCH part.

Handgun or rifle, I always like to put mine across about 5" above the sensors. If it is picking up the 22, it should be picking up everything else. There might be something wrong with the processor. You might want to take it back and exchange it. I've never had that problem that you describe.
