Like rifle scopes, you get what you pay for in spotting scopes. Just about any $99.95 spotting scope will work for 100 yard and maybe 200 yard work if.....your shooting big caliber bullets. Try looking for that .257 bullet hole at 500 meters in a black target with that Walmart special. Been there......

Earl, I have never trimmed a 38 wcf or a 44 wcf and I have numerous guns in those calibers and some rifles and handguns made in the black powder days that have logged 4-5 thou. rds. The serial number on an 1886 is on the lower tang as Malamute said. IF the gun was sent back to the factory for a replacement lower tang.......which also houses the trigger group....it was common when Winchester did replace the tang they omitted restamping the serial number. Not in defense of Kalifornia authorities but it did say in the text that the gun was "illegally modified". The only way the gun police would have known this is that the farmer told the truth as to specifics of the gun...such as barrel length, bayonet lug, flash hider, Trigger group, mag release butt...

Since shooting these modern gizmo's I've changed my thinking to a meat and potatos S&W M&P or a Glock 9. These guns eat up everything without a hitch as do my Model A Uzis......everything in 9mm.

The only thing I can add is that by chronographing several thousand rounds from several 9mm handguns vs. a 16" barreled UZI did not produce enough velocity gain that would mean the difference between lights on or lights off.----6
