Re: coyote calibers

There are 2 problems with using rimfires on coyotes: First reason is they are tough. I've read where guys get decent results (i.e. some DRT's the rest short runners) using rimfires and others talking about consistant runners for distances of 1/4 mile and beyond. My experience has been the latter. I'...

Hard Cast samples?

I'm wanting to pick up some cast bullets for my 30/30, .32 mag and .357. Around here they are going for $50-$60/500 so I'll be going thru the I-net. The only problem is I don't want to be buying 500 just to test some loads and see what work best in each gun. Only need 30 or so of a bunch of differen...

Re: Modifing spire tipped bullet for use in a lever gun?

Some great advice here guys, thanks much. Still undecided about the powder. It looks and smells fine but a good point about not risking a $500 gun and possible injury to find out. I'm gonna try to find someone to do a trade on the pistol primers. I don't know any handgun reloaders (besides me and i ...

Modifing spire tipped bullet for use in a lever gun?

A buddy of mine was given a box of reloading stuff from a ol'timer in his home town. The box included 400 Hornady spire tipped 110gr bullets. The only .308 either of us has is my 30/30 so I was hoping to modify them into FP's for plinkin, small game on up to coyotes. What is the best diameter of the...

Re: OT handgun advice

I have both a Ruger Single-Six .32 mag and a 4" .357 Security Six (stainless). Every time I go out it's a toss up on which one will see the woods. I can toss my .22 into that same boat. Some days the choice is a killer! But the .32 mag is great for my needs and will see the lion's share of wood...

13 LB Wolff hammer spring not enough!!!!

Ordered the kit on Sat night and got it via UPS ground today. I was gonna just order the 1 - 13lbs spring but opted for the combo pack that include one each of the 13 and 15 lbs springs. So glad I did. I first installed the 13 lbs spring. It took all of about 5 min even though I had never had the gu...

Easier loading/unloading a 94AE?

I've had issues with loading both the 94 Trapper I used to have and the current 94AE I just got. What a pain in the "thumb/pinky". Not only is the loading gate hard to press in but I have to PUSH HARD with the tip of my pinky to get the shell into the tube the last little bit. My thumb is ...

Decided to add a pic the previous had e-mailed me prior to purchase. Not much different that any other 94AE but this one's MINE!!!! http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii178/L_Killkenny/IMG_1174-1.jpg As posted above, since I've gotten it I've ordered a some Wolff springs, added the 2-7 scope and wra...

Re: New 94AE, questions, comments and basic BS session....

"Fair" is probably a good word for the deal. Around here beat up Win 94's go for $250 and decent used 70/80 vintage Marlins for $275-$300. Figure I have $300 into the gun and it's worth it for me to have the straight stock and style I like. I do have a wire stretcher and left handed hammer...

New 94AE, questions, comments **PIC ADDED**

Well, picked up the 94AE this weekend. Happiness is!! Seller was great and the gun is in very good condition. Wood is great for a Ranger with a much darker stain then I am used to seeing on a birch ranger. No crossbolt or tang safety. It came with 100 rounds of factory 150 ammo, 200 Hornady 110gr bu...

Re: HENRY 22 magnum

I handled a used one with Octagon barrel at a gunshow last week. Seemed solid. It was either drilled and tapped or groved for scopes, can't remember which. Much bigger than the Taurus's and old Remingtons and Winchesters. More of a full sized rifle but not quite. The biggest problem i have with pump...

Rebounding Hammer?

Gonna pick up the Win 94AE Saturday and on my other post I see reference to the "rebounding hammer". Being that all the Lever guns I've been around have the half cock hammer I wonder what the heck is everyone talking about. No half cock, no safety? How the heck does that work? Confused... LK

Re: Back into Lever Guns!!!

Thanks all. Got pics of it today. He said it was in excelent condition. You guys know how that goes. It's only in about 99% by the pics :D . Don't even see any scratches on the loading gate. Definetly AE with out the safety. Nicer wood than I thought it would have for a ranger.

Re: Slicking up a Win 94?

Good to know about the firing pin. I was of a thinkin that all centerfires are safe to dryfire. Learn something new everyday.

I might get a snap cap. Never seen one last very many rounds though.

What about the trigger?

"Light" 30/30 loads?

I'm looking at trying to work up a 30/30 load for coon, fox and coyote. Kinda the "Ultimate" 30/30 varmint round. Used to run Seirra 125 hp's at around 2500 FPS using H4895 on coyotes but I'm betting they'll just tear the stuff outta coon and fox. I'm gonna start with Hodgdons 60% (minimum...

Slicking up a Win 94?

Told you boys, not wasting any time here. Here come the questions....LOL. What should I be looking to do to slick up the action of a 94 Ranger and getting the trigger up to snuff? Any basic stuff or resource I should be doing? Dryfireing? Plenty of couch time cycling the action? I know it does wonde...

Re: Raccoon Rifle

After years of running coons with dogs we switched over to callin them this year. Great fun but don't go telling everyone. Our little secret! Up until this winter I would of never recommended a .22LR for a coon calling gun. Seen way to many coons hang on in a tree after being solidly hit with the LR...

Back into Lever Guns!!!

Hello all. Well I've gone and done it. Just confirmed everything to pick up a used pre-safety 94 Ranger for $350 with scope bases, Weaver Quad-Lock rings and 200 Hornady 110gr SP's. Nothing special but then again, so what! :) Thought I might as well drop a note saying "Hi" since we all are...
