Re: Mansfield canoe

I often look at ebay closed auctions to establish the value of things. For what it's worth, someone has been running a 13 foot Stowe Mansfield canoe on ebay, trying to start the auction at $500 with a buy it now price of $650. That seems like a pretty good bargain, but surely a longer one like yours...

Re: Steel shot waterfowl hunt question

Guns for steel shot generally have chrome lined bores, which I think is to prevent erosion of the steel barrel. If I were you, I'd try to borrow something more modern, though Brent gave good advice on using bismuth shot. As I recall, it is very expensive off the shelf, though.

Re: Marlin 1889 with a history

Thanks for the comments, and we have only done some google searches for names, but have not been able to find anything about Captain Lemmington or the bandit Juan Padilla, except that Juan Padilla is apparently a fairly common name. Maybe someone out there knows something or has access to informatio...

Marlin 1889 with a history

My son recently purchased this from an individual, and I would like to find out what you all think about it. It is a Marlin 1889 in 44/40, and comes with a letter dated 1932, from a previous owner, Frank Keene, who states that he obtained it in a trade from a US Border Patrol agent, Captain Ben Lemm...

Re: OT - On Praise of Coleman Lanterns

Keep your eyes open for Coleman lanterns and stoves in the "harvest gold" color, which was similar to what many appliances were painted in the seventies. They are kind of rare and will bring a premium on ebay. It is my understanding that the only way that you get that color was with tradin...

Marlin 375 bought at auction

Last weekend, there was a local country auction, and I fooled around and bought a Marlin 375, in .375 Winchester, and in nice shape, with a few dings to the stock. Ending up paying $330 for it, which it seems now to be a pretty good deal, though I didn't really know at the time I got it. The leaf is...

So sorry for your loss, and I am sure that it is hard to comprehend the pain this must be unless you've walked this path too. This world has never been a more dangerous and attractive place for young men, and my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

Re: OT-Tom Selleck and the Coen's.

OK, I can agree with most all that has been (still wondering about Eddie Murphy, though) but I was impressed with the actor by the name of Thomas Haden Church in Broken Trail, who played with Robert Duvall. I think THC is a natural cowboy actor, and I hope to see him another western one day soon. I'...

Re: Goodbye to my beloved wife

There's nothing that I can add, but I've said many times before that if it didn't hurt, something would be wrong with us, so keep in mind that in a sense, the pain that you feel from this loss is sort of a tribute to the loved one. In time, the pain will fade and you will be left with the memories. ...

Re: Winchester 94 Values?

Thanks so much for the information, I have one pre-64 that I bought a few years ago at a pawn shop for $75. It's pretty worn, but for the $, I just couldn't pass it up. I haven't really followed the post-64's, but it seems that there are various sub-classes of them, such as pre-safety, pre-angle eje...

Winchester 94 Values?

After attending a gunshow this weekend, I was amazed at some of the prices for Winchester 94's in 30-30, that would have been $150 to $250 a few short years ago. Today, I saw a Winchester 94 for sale, serial # 3,5xx,xxx range, for $299, and it had a few light scuffs on the stock, a few spots on the ...

I am also one of those who has been exposed many times and never broken out, but I read an article in Outdoor Life, I think, which said that each time you are exposed, you use up a portion of your resistence to it. I think it is important to keep that in mind, and not expose yourself unnecessarily.

Very nice, I may have to try that with mine. Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'd be interested in knowing what others with B-92's in .44 like to shoot, or favorite loads. Thanks!
