The owner of the river bottoms I hunt when up north there rents a hay field about a mile away. That owner will NOT alow hunters. It is common to see 60+ deer there in an evening. Highest count was 74 in mid October.

I do not get real choosy. I am just looking for whatever comes along I can afford at the moment. Trading material is great to have.

With the 94 other LONG cartriges appeared the best of which is the 38-55.. a vast improvement in power in a light weight rifle.
The smokeless powder era had arrived and the 94 was there on the spot.

Anything will eventually stop a bullet given enough of it.
What you will face with snow is it packed.. wet.. or just that nice fluffy stuff laying there ?
This is what Avalanch crews test ( plus much more)for as they rate the stability of snow accumulation on mountain sides.

Simple put.. BIG holes are always better.
In caliber .45 I can load a round ball to shoot bunnies and a 300 grainer to tackle big mean critters.
There is nothing wrong with a caliber .30... it just does not stack up to a caliber .45.

Bigger holes are always better. A 357 170 grain bullet Moving at 2000fps will smack a deer over a wider area and cause more damage than a cal .30 170 bullet moving at 200fps.
I no longer shoot either. I moved on to the 38 rifles and really get the job done.

The web sight says the primary MARCH is in Washinton D.C..
You have to go to the websight to see IF your state has a March organizing. I would assume the STATE marches would take place at the respective capitals.
I would think you could also call some gunshops and get better info.

I have two "Woods/river bottoms" leveractions. #1 is my favorite: a Marlin 41 mag CB ltd and a Ruger Blackhawk . My #2 combination is a Rossi M92 in 45 Colt with a Ruger Blackhawk. I know of nothing that is in our area of the state of ILL that Either caliber cannot handle.

Hello again EWT I did a little searching about and there is a feller over at CASTBOOLITS that is selling all sorts of 38 caliber lead rifle slugs for $18-20 per hundred. I have no stock in that sale. Good morning I am sure Winchester kept up with metal blending advances so probably the 1930 models are possibly the best. I have a 1907 38-55 that was well hunted and probably cycled the thousands of times it takes to really make an action slick. Came out of Minnesota and it is by far my favorite 94.

Good morning All them pesky screws... I pulled off all scopes some years ago and went to peep sights. Just my coyote .223 rifle has a scope now. But as I approach 60 I sure need my Steiner glasses to see the target holes at 50 yards to be sure. Another 10 years and I guess the scopes will ge back out.

I have 2 Rossi's (45L Colt). There is nothing wrong with either. One is an older Interarms mark & the other has no other markings. Both shoot straight and digest my reloads with no fuss.

Good Morning For a TON of Cast info for the 30-30 or any other caliber you can go to the Cast Boolits websight. Use the SEARCH mode on the LEVERACTION board & I think you will have all the loads yopu can desire. The LYMAN Cast Manual is a Good tool. BUT beware... you may just decide you can CAST...

GOOD EVENING REMEMBER YOU CAN CUT THE BARRELS ANYTIME. Me I would start with the barrel in origonal length. Measure the bore at the forcing cone and as far down as possible. Then measure again at the chokes and again as far down the muzzle area as possible. You should have a max diameter of about .7...
