Re: Cast Bullets for a 44 Big Boy
Do you * need * a FCD ? Probably not . Are there occasional combinations of casing , bullet , and chamber where they are useful ? Yes . Is there a downside to using one where not absolutely necessary ? Usually not . If you are inclined to seat and crimp in seperate steps , adding an additional crimp...

Re: roundball in 12 ga
Foster style slugs were introduced in the 1930's . Lots of older hunters who were not otherwise gun enthusiasts continued to call all slugs " Pumkin Balls " for a long time .

Re: Elmer Blows Up Another SAA
As to * The 400 yard Shot(s) * , you have to consider the context . His client wounded the Elk with his rifle . The client expended the rest of his ammunition unsuccessfully attempting to put down the Elk , as it was moving farther away . Elmer only used his revolver once there was no other alternat...

Re: Revolver/auto pistol dilemma
Scott's mystery is actually fairly obvious . DA Revolvers require a certain level of strength for each shot . Even if you can still make it go bang after a while , fatigued muscles are less controlled and precise . A SA or DA/ SA semiauto will have a lighter pull for all or most shots respectively ....

Re: And now for something completely different
After some searching , the website of a Russian mfg mentions energy of 50 to 70 Joules , which roughly corresponds to 35 to 50 ft lb .

Re: Who fiddles with a .32 ACP these days?
I have a sweet shooting FEG ( sort of PPK copy , slightly larger , with the aluminum frame) . A CZ 70 that has redicously heavy trigger , that I keep meaning to send to my semi- local smith who specializes in trigger work . For really tiny , a NAA Guardian , that's actually too small for my hands . ...

Re: A Repost Of An Old Article I Wrote Years Ago
Wasn't just in Missouri during the War . 43rd Va Cav aka Mosby's Rangers were likewise primarily armed with multiple revolvers , and used them often to great effect .

Re: Mossberg lifter problem
Externally it looks like a M336 with the addition of hammer block safety on the side of the reciever. I Want to think it is similar internally also, but really can't say. I actually used to own an M472, but it worked reliably, and never had occasion to probe the internals. ( it was extremely accurat...

Mossberg lifter problem
Today picked up a WesternField M72 ( Moss M472 with Montgomery Ward private label). The round releases out of mag tube ok, but the lifter doesn't come up, and the bolt tryes to ride over top of the ctg. If I manually put ctg into chamber it will fire and eject.
Is there sothing obvious to look at ?

Re: 30-30 Ackley Improved
Holy necrothread ! Sorry, but I was searching on .30-30 Imp, and after loging in shocked at how long since visiting. There can be and are lots of flavors of "Improved", but Ackley Improved is a specific design. Speaking generally the other well known family of Improved ctgs is the RCBS. Ty...

Re: 44 mag 300gr load
Alas not familar w/ Brazilian mfg powders . BUT logic would sugguest at least one powder to be used in .30 Carbine , and at least one for .410 shotgun hunting loads. They might not be listed as "pistol" powders , but those will be in the proper neighborhood of burning rate.

Re: SA Revolver Options - need some insight
I have an almost pair of 3.5in , std grip (old) Vaqueros. Yes I occasionally CCW one. The grip shape is not a limiting factor. Std grips work well with almost everyone , various birdsheads and Bisley's are a more variable matter of taste. With any Ruger/ SAA clone it is a fairly large gun, with subs...
