Care and feeding of a 1889 Marlin
Care and feeding of a 1889 Marlin Over the course of last fall, I picked up two (count - em ... two) Marlin 89's. One in 44-40 made in 1901, the other in 38-40 made in 1891. I'm beginning to have a love affair with the 38-40. Like a red headed bastar* child, it needed a lot of understanding to get ...

Good to hear your sticking to your resolutions. I don't make'em as I've learned I generally won't stick to it and then it's just a disappointment. I have a Marlin 1889 in 38-40. On a one to 10, its probably a 7 or 7.5 The bore is an 8. A little rough with strong rifling. Shooting .401 lrfn 180 gr bullets would print all over the target at 25 yards, Half of them missed completely. I also learned that my 89 does not like black powder. (Two round...

WWII Winchester 94. Whats the "W" for?
A good friend of mine just picked up a Winchester 94 in 32 win. The serial number makes it a war time manufacture ( between 1942 and 44 I believe). On the underside of the frame just below the serial number is a " W " stamped on the frame. Someone told me that it was there because a large ...

The 38 rounds were the old 158 gr swc. You can not compress a liquid. When the bullet hits something, it drives the BB into the cavity. The BB acts like a hydraulic piston forcing the oil into the bullet. The lead bulled explodes.
