Re: New source for odd brass, sights, parts etc..
I have been shopping at Track for years. Wonderful folks. They specialize in custom made flint locks and percussion guns at pretty reasonable prices. I bought some wonderful flinters from them over the years. All custom made. I bought the most fantastic 12 gauge Flintlock from them, the darn lock is...

Local paper has an article that says the Dept. of Ag is going to expedite the process now. You can now go to a regional office to apply in person. The office will take the pictures, fingerprints and notarize the application to be sent off. They hope to cut the wait time to 2-3 weeks. To find a regi...

Re: 1873 winchester .44-40
Me personally I don't think it would sell at $1K. As has been noted, the barrel has been chopped, and frankly that makes it a rebuilder/shooter at best. Depending on bore, a parts gun at worst. Unless there is something like fancy factory engraving which has been done at the factory, altering a Win...

I waited until Sears had a sale on tool boxes (The stack kind) I bought two bottom boxes @ $99 each. (I opted for black, but red was available as well.) Drilled holes in the bottoms so that I could mount the wheels to roll front to back instead of side to side. Mounted 2X4's on edge on the tops (fro...

It all depends on the condition, but I think it's safe to say bottom end 4 digits ($1000) on up to 1400.
A decent, tight 73 in 44-40 with good rifling is every cowboy shooter's dream.
Mine anyway.

I'd have to say a short barreled lever gun in 45 colt. With a 250 gr rnfp or swc standard velocity slug. Its easy to shoot, wont pass through the miscreant and kill the neighbor's dog, less recoil for time on target for follow up shots. and with a 45 ... "If you hit him, he will fall." As ...

If money is an important issue, you can get some really fine previously owned Winchester and Marlin 30-30's around here (Adirondacks) pretty cheep. If you want more pizzas, a Win 94 in 375 is another good choice. I personally adore 45-70, it is a lot of gun for deer, but that Marlin Guide gun sure i...

Hey, J Miller An excellent and simple system indeed. I may incorporate that in mine, if you don't mind someone taking advantage of a little knowledge. Mine is well suited for the storage area I have. Re: Hot Loads---45 Colt
If you have a 45 Colt caliber handgun, a good practice is to mark the hot loaded cases (rifle)on the bottom with fingernail polish so they never get mixed up with the pistol loads. It does happen. Sure does. And an excellent idea. I have a Puma 454, a Marlin Cowboy in 45Colt and a few handguns. Two...

Bought a Puma 92 in 44-40 two months ago (20"). Took it to the range with some cowboy loads (.429 205 rnfp over 6 gr of 231). I was blown away ... in a good sense. The rifle worked flawlessly and was poa out to 50 yards with that load. A very impressive weapon. Quite wonderful for the price. It...

Forgive the inaccurate "Long Colt" designation; but the .45 Colt label often proves confusing when you are talking about the longer cartridge versus the .45 ACP. I saw at our Classified forum, and have seen elsewhere, a cylinder that can be used to convert a Uberti black powder revolver s...

Finally found a target load - 38-55 Winchester

The weakness meant that there was a threshold in load capabilities. And that Browning developed the 86 type action with the l...

The cimmeron (Uberti)Henry is a great gun. And you got it at a really good price. But remember, with a brass frame, you can't load it too heavy.
