Bruce, if that rifle is still in the planning stage, why not use an 8mm barrel? I did on my Ruger #1 .32-40 and it is a great shooter with cast bullets from my NEI mold. I size .323 and breech seat for groups well under .500 when I am doing "my part" as they say.

A problem with any ML rifle under .40 caliber is the loading rod. My .40 cal Kentucky has a 3/8" (.375) Hickory ramrod. Any smaller bore will use steel or fiberglass rod or you will have a problem finding a quality wooden rod. Also .40 cal is the smallest ML legal for deer in WA state. I know o...

It works differently in different guns BUT. I find the lighter bullets at high speed will shoot lower than say a 300+ bullet at 12-1300 fps at short range due to the barrel recoiling up more before the bullet leaves the barrel. Now at longer ranges the slow heavy bullet will start to drop quicker th...

The Douglas barrel on my .32-40 will handle 180gr cast very well at
1 in 14 twist. It is a .323 (8mm) barrel and I shoot the same bullets sized the same in my Win. 94 32sp. but those bullets are barely stable at 16-1700 fps. so I`d guess it`s 1 in 16" twist. :)
