I've since rechambered my 464 to Ackley Improved. I was down in Salt Lake over the weekend, and went into a good shop there. I counted a dozen AR15 receivers, and 20 AR15s of different types on the wall. They had an M1A, some Saigas, plenty of stuff.

Receivers were priced at $199, however.

Mossberg 464 - now converted to 30-30 Ackley Improved

I was worried whether or not I'd be able to ream the chamber without removing the barrel from the action. No problem! After sliding the bolt out, I was able to slide the reamer down into the chamber with ease. I used an extension for a 3/8" ratchet, which fit the square end of the reamer nearly...

How about 1.90cc of Trail Boss? I think that works out to around 9 grains.

My favorite light load for 30-30. Put a Plinker boolit of some sort on top, you are good to go. I've used from 110 up to 170 grains, and they all shoot wonderfully.

It's around 1100 FPS -- a 22 on serious steroids.

I saw a Mossberg at Big Five yesterday. Outside fit and finish looked every bit as good as the competition. The birch stocks are pretty plain though. I must agree with you there. Yup, it's looking to be a bit flattened. You can also see a crater beginning to form around the firing pin indentation as the pressures go up. At 32 grains, there was no crater ridge. You can DEFINITELY make out a crater ridge around all the firing pin indentations at 36 grains. 36 grains was a MAXI...

"Going to sleep" is a term I picked up from high-power shooters. The heavier ones often need a little distance before they settle in. A heavier bullet will shoot better at 300 yards than it will at 100. Not saying the total group size will necessarily be SMALLER, but if measured in minutes...
