That bullet looked like one of the old swaged .357 Speer bullets! I'd love to get my hands on those, but got lots of the Lee/Lyman cast LFN bullets made up ready to load.

I envy you! I'm stuck with a '48 and a '77. Hated the fat fore stock so much that I picked up a later skinnier one and sanded it to fit and stuck it on the '48. Most of my shooting/hunting these days is the '77 though with quiet ammo, CB short and long and the quiet stuff.

IF you do decide to shoot it, stick with CB shorts! Less stress on it then, plus easier to clean. HTH

Add on...with todays modern ammo just run dry or lightly oiled patches through it to protect the plating. YMMV

Actually, the 5.56x45 was developed to mimic at 500yds what the 30 carbine could do at 100yds! YMMV

I could be wrong in this, but Elmer Keith mostly used 1-16 lead alloy for whatever he was shooting, even 357 mags. Even Skeeter Skelton used that same alloy mostly with the Lyman 358156GC bullet. HTH

He had to go through all that just for a new fangled HENRY???? I'd understand all that if he bought a '73/'92'/'94 lever, but why go through all that for a HENRY? Just buy a truck and stick a back window gun rack in it and be done with it! :roll: :lol:

Yes, there are aftermarket triggers available in the 3.5-4 pd category that will suite your needs. I went with Rise Armament for mine. FYI, get ready to spend around $100 or more for them though, but well worth it! HTH

Thanks, AJ. Width is .92 for the LCP II and .81 for the LCP, not really enough to worry about, but decided to pass on the crossdraw holster anyway.

Yes, BIG improvement! I also didn't like the marshield on my '77 39a, so striped it and recoated it with tru-oil. Later I picked up a '70s Win 94 30/30 that the finish was cracking on, so gave it the same treatment. Gave both the steel wool rub down.

4T5, after re-reading your post it looks to me like you are using WAY to low pressure rounds! I'd suggest using at the least standard pressure 38spl loads. YMMV

Yup, that's the way my '77 39a is set up. Just match the curve of the bullseye with the curve of the stock, less frustration that way. 8) Don't bother asking me how I know. :roll:

Just had a thought, drill shallow dimples in the sides of the bullseye before gluing in and it should help keep the bullseye from working its way out again. HTH

Believe it or not, over time they do eventually loosen up and work their way out. I've got a 1977 39a that that happened to. Fortunately, I found it and glued it back in, with wood glue if I remember right, likely with Elmers. HTH
