Drifter update and shenanigans
A couple weeks ago we took Drifter in to the vet for shots and neutering. Didn't seem to bother him in the least, and he's since stopped "marking" mama's flower pots, garage doors, shrubs, and sidewalk, so she's happy about that. It hasn't seemed to curb his desire to hunt any, and w...

Re: Loading the .380 "for bear"
My little Glock eats up that Ranch Dog 380 bullet that I cast. It weighs 103 gr. cast from wheel weights, and I get 1000 fps from them and maintain good accuracy, about 3-4 inches at 25 yards. The big flat meplat does make a good wound channel too. Not as large as a HP, but it's decent, and has much...

Re: Henry, Rossi and Marlins Oh My
I don't personally care for the aesthetics of the Henry, or the tube loading method. I've had a Rossi 357, and it was decent enough for the money, but not nicely fit or smooth. I recently bought a Marlin Cowboy after years of wanting one. It's by far the best of the 3, in my opinion. Be prepared to ...

Re: Alliant Varmint in your 30-30?
Earl according to the Hornady #9 reloading manual:..... 160 gr flex tip 37.0gr (max) leverevolution = 2300 fps........ This may be part of my problem. Hodgdon's load data center shows 35.5 gr. of LVR as max with a 160 Hornady FTX. Using this data, I maxed out my Ackley load at 37.5 gr. That has bee...

Re: Alliant Varmint in your 30-30?
I mostly shoot the Speer 150 in my Ackley. I get 50 fps more velocity with the Sierra 150 gr. bullet, 2500 fps, but it's not quite as accurate as the Speer in my rifle, so I settled for 2450 fps from the 18.5" barrel of my rechambered Marlin 30TK. I recently got a box of the Hornady 160 gr. FTX...

Re: Alliant Varmint in your 30-30?
In the 30/30 I use LVR for full-power loads and neither RL-15 nor "Varmint" can quite equal LVR there. That's interesting, because I've tried LVR with high hopes in my Ackley and standard 30-30's, and it has been a dismal disappointment for me. Groups more closely resemble a buckshot load...

Alliant Varmint in your 30-30?
I was looking up some load data last night and came across a new powder from Alliant called Power Pro Varmint. I don't know if it's actually new, but this was the first that I've heard of it. Alliant RL15 has long been a favorite of mine for the 30-30 and 30-30 Ackley Improved, but this Varmint powd...

Re: My Blackhawk is lonely no more!
The little Marlin seems to get along well with my pet 357 load. 180 gr cast with 15.0 gr of LilGun, 1780 fps. Just over an inch at 50 yards with the factory sights. That's about as good as I can do with that type of iron sights anymore. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f157/TedH/Mobile%20Uploads/20...

I'll take a little different angle at it. If you forgot you even had them, they are obviously not used, and really aren't items of a collector either. While I use all my guns, some are collectable, and I enjoy them. Need the money or not, I'd say sell them, and let someone else get the enjoyment out...

Re: 9mm v. 45acp: Let The Melee Begin
I think any of the Premium bullets in the "9mm and up" calibers would make me feel pretty comfortable in a gun I could shoot well. I don't currently have a 40, but I do routinely carry a 380, 9mm, or a 45. From the information in the article, the 357 Sig makes pretty good sense to me, with...

I've always wanted a small caliber front stuffer like that, but I never understood why the production guns in the smaller calibers are so much more expensive than the 50 and 54 caliber guns.
