I think the old time formula for WW's had 0.25% arsenic in them. Helps if you drop in water, to harden the alloy. I use #3 babbit when I blend my alloy as I like a bit of copper in my HV alloys

Just like JimT, a friend of mine uses the Speer 130gr hot core bullet in his Savage 24 O/U 30-30/12ga. It will print three shots with bullet holes touching @75 yds. He seldom shoots over 100yds. 7 years/7 shots/ 7 dead deer. He used to use WW 150gr silvetips. The 130's chrono close to 2700fps IIRC

Winchester Super-x always worked very well in my 39A. Never a failure to feed/fire. One of the most accurate ammo that the gun digested. I will add that this was decades ago too. The gun just liked everything I put thru it.

Hope you get yours fixed and shooting well.

Marlin Cowboy 44mag worth?

Gun shop I visited had on consignment one of the Marlin Cowboy 44mags. 24" barrel and didn't look like it had been used much. Almost bought it. Still thinking about it, but wondering what they are worth? Was thinking about one of the new Winchesters 1873's in 357mag, but I like the Marlin Cowboy gun...

Re: Anyone have an oversize .45 cal

Pan lube them to fill out all the grooves in the bullet , then re=size back down to .460" or so and you should be good to go. The lube in the grooves will help somewhat prevent deformation to the bullet when you size down so far. You might have to deep seat the bullets if the nose is also oversize, ...

AR15 platform (one rifle, many uppers in different calibers). Pistol is a tough one though, either a Freedom arms in 44 mag or 45 Colt (durn, would have to buy one!!) or a 9mm or 45 on the 1911 platform with a 22 conversion.

Pretty much a rimless 357 max. A drawback I can see , is that it uses a proprietary case with a rebated rim @0.390" base dia. vs the 223/5/56 base dia. of 0.376", so cannot make brass from the plentiful 223/5.56 cases. Oh, and that you can't use carbide dies to reload the thing. I hope they release ...

I would guess around 750fps and might be concerned about it making it down your 24" tube. If you do try it, take a rod (I use brass 1/4" welding rod--30" long IIRC) and hammer to remove the stuck bullet. IIRC, Clays is around Red Dot/Promo speed.

I have used the Leverevolution powder with a 190gr cast slug in my Marlin with outstanding results. Don't remember the velocity, but it was over 2000fps and hit our 200 meter gong with plenty of authority and about 2" groups. Not too shabby for a 30-30. think I might build a 30-30 bolt gun. Wouldn't think it would be 357 max brass as nickle plated max brass is fairly rare. Even if it was, it would size just fine in a 357mag sizer as thats what I use for my 357max's. I would think more than likely an oversized chamber from whatever it was shot in.
