Re: Heavy Buckshot on Bear?
I've never shot a bear and probably never will, but I was told by both my grandfather and dad not to ever try to shoot one between the eyes. Their "wisdom" was that a bear has a hard, angled area at the front of its skull that will often cause a bullet to glance off. They told me to always...

Re: Leverguns being prone to accidental discharge
Of course it can be unsafe!
It's a gun. A gun is as unsafe as the guy using it.
FWIW, I've found that the safest way for me to lower a hammer is to stick the end of my thumb over the front of the hammer when lowering and use my thumb as sort of a built in hammer block.

What about battery terminals?
Are they also unsafe to melt down into bullets?

I like my Husquvarna.
And it is efficient. So far this year we've probably got close to two cords of firewood cut with mine and we're still running on the same can of gas.

Yep. The stuff I'm hearing from people in Alaska is that the only problem they have with this is that they'll be losing their favorite governor, ever!

Re: Politics - Republicans Recycling 12,000 Obama Trashed Flags
i believe obama will launch an all attack on the constitution IF he's elected. i believe he has no loyalty to the american flag and what it stands for. if he's the best the dems can offer for election...we're in deeeeeeeeeeeeeeep trouble... he is not the best they could offer, he is what the far le...

Re: Now, Sarah's Security clearance.
I wouldn't see it as being an issue. Many presidents were former governors before getting elected so being a governor is apparently good enough. But the ultra-left seems to HATE her so I wouldn't be surprised if they try to make this into something. The moderates (like me) and right seem to all love...

Well, you misrepresented what I said twice. First here: Anyway, you haven't given me any reasons why I'm so stupid. All you've done is define me as stupid according to your point of view. I did not call you stupid. I didn't even post the original statement to you, you owned it. This is what I actua...

Of course you're entitled to your opinion. It just shows how little you understand about our government and what words mean. Actually, you quoted yourself, ( From my point of view ), and the social contract in our country is not according to your point of view. If you have your way, the seven thous...

Re: 30-30 solids - got some questions.
While it wouldn't be on my list as a bear gun either, the 30-30 seems to work OK with regular loads and head shots up close. Don McCullough has mentioned Ralph edwards, who wrote the book "Crusoe of Lonesome Lake". He lived in BC Canada in the 40's-50's, and said he stopped counting the g...

Aside from that, people have been changing the land to better suit their needs since the first crops were domesticated. Probably even longer than that. It is what it is. I say supervise the hell out of it to keep them honest and prevent any unnecessary damage to the environment, then let them drill....

I'm not defending homosexuality - personally I find it pretty repulsive and the Bible does call it a no-no. But if you're gonna have equality, it has to be, you know... equal. I bet if you were standing around in Heaven and read this it would sound, you know... STUPID . It always amazes me when fol...

Re: 30-30 solids - got some questions.
I agree on the .45-70 and a Stainless guide gun is on the wish list. But I have a 30-30 and I have no intentions of getting rid of it. If anything, I'll get another and have it cut down to 16". Or maybe just get another one and let it alone - I actually like the way they handle at this length. ...

- Government health care. I have mixed feelings on this one. Often, you'll see hard core republicans bash gays with a Biblical reference, then turn around in the same breath and say that they have no responsibility to fund anyone else's health care - like there is no responsibility to be your broth...

Leadhead Bullets are 22, I think, on the Brinell hardness scale..........that ought to do what you want. Their website is ProShootPro.com, but they're in the States. Kansas, I believe. Don't know if that's a concern to you or not. And I'm cutious as well, as to what you'll be using them for, if you...

Seems like we're OT here so I don't feel too bad about this... A few points: - I watched McCain's speech tonight. There was a protester and I kind of hoped that Sarah would have been the one to toss the jerk out into the street. THAT would have been news! - Although I disagree with some of McCain's ...

30-30 solids - got some questions.
Sorry if this has been covered but I haven't been having much luck finding any info with the search. I just don't quite have it figured out yet. Anyway, does anyone know where I can find some really hard cast bullets or some jacketed flat nose bullets for the .30-30 that will give maximum penetratio...

They only attack her personally because they can't find much to attack her on professionally. And after her speech last night, I'm not too worried about her. As I said on another forum, I'm not voting Republican - I'm voting for Sarah Palin. FYI - the Democrats are idiots. I personally don't care wh...

Re: OT 311 Stevens SXS
My grandfather explained it to me like this: The front trigger usually fires the right barrel and the rear fires the left. The right barrel is usually the more open choke. It's the first one you'll fire because the trigger is in the front and it's more open because you'll want more spread up close. ...

Re: OT: One rifle & One pistol for all around use.
For the rifle, Marlin 336 30-30. For the handgun, a 3" Ruger SP-101. Between those two I should be able to do most anything I need a gun to do WITH the exception of small game hunting. For that, I'd positively want my CZ-452 or my 10/22. I'd also be tempted to choose the FAL in place of the 30-...

Welcome to the forum, glad to see another levergun man show up here. Hope you stick around and tell some huntin' tales. Thanks. I'm kind of short on hunting stories. I hunted for a few years but it's not much fun to hunt in PA anymore. Mostly, I like the lever actions (especially Marlins) for their...

Re: New guy checking in
Yeah, I was wondering if maybe it had to do with factory ammo not being loaded quite as hot as it could be loaded. I knew that was the case with my beginning handloads - they were definitely at the minimum on purpose. It still might be the case because I'm loading with Win 760. It's not ideal for th...

New guy checking in
Hi, I just registered on this forum and figured I should say hi. After buying a Marlin 336 30-30 about a month ago, I noticed last week that my primers aren't flush with the rear of the casing after firing. It happens with both handloads and Federal and Remington factory loads. I figured I had a hea...
