Re: how short have you gone?
Won't the forend wood be loose if it only is held on by being wrapped around the magazine...? I'd think it really has to have some barrel band or cap to hold it right... :? yes, so the underside of the barrel has this little guy. https://i.postimg.cc/FHkH0XP5/IMG-20191203-224711104.jpg There is a s...

Re: how short have you gone?
My factory SRC has a 9.5" button end magazine (3 round) and a 9" forearm. How do you figure you can get along without a barrel band to hold the forearm after you shorten the magazine or are you referring to the front band only? You have a carbine with a forearm cap? Yes, I have a carbine ...

Has anyone shortened the magazine tube on a winchester 94 carbine (typical configuration, 20" barrel with full mag)? If so how short did you go? and how many rounds does it hold. I'm getting ideas for a new project. I'm definitely wanting to shorten the tube to improve handling characteristics,...

Re: I've come across a Rem. Model 81 in .300 Savage...good price, or no?
Good question Flint. My guess is -- the 35 Rem was introduced in the early 1900's and its pressure was appropriate for the gun steel of the time -- a little less than the 30/30 but not a lot less. By the time the 300 Savage was chambered in the model 81 we had gone through a world war and nearly 30...

Re: I've come across a Rem. Model 81 in .300 Savage...good price, or no?
This topic confused me. Can someone clear something up for me. Over the years I've ready about how 35 rem ammo is loaded at low pressure because the remington auto loading rifles that were chambered for it. So, 35 rem ammo is loaded to lower pressure than 30-30 ammo. However, 300 savage is loaded to...

I don't mind the weight so much, I don't usually have to walk super far where I hunt. I'll mostly have to get used to the length. at 24" its the longest barrel on a rifle that I own.

another contributing factor is that I think I've heard that some states that used to be shotgun only are now allowing pistol cartridges and/or straight cartridges for deer now. Even just one state full of hunters would be a huge instant demand for pistol cartridge rifles.

deer on the ground within 40 feet sounds like it worked fine to me. I don't think you should expect too much penetration from a hollow point pistol bullet. Blaine, that actually makes the most sense to charge the mileage rate, that would come to about $150 which sounds reasonable to me.
Thanks!
