If anybody else is interested, Lyman says the reason behind the Model 1878 designation is that the gun isn't intended to be a repro of the original Sharps 1878, its name reflects a version contracted for by Lyman to reflect the year Lyman originally started in business (1878), and it's a LYMAN Mode...

They don't have the .45-70 or the .38-55 anymore, because I bought it...
