Re: .35 Remington question
I have hunted with the .35 Rem for a number of years now and really like this round. I've found that the Hornady LE is not only cheaper in my area but it is as accurate if not more so than the other roundnose offerings. It shoots higher as well, so you don't want to switch from one to the other in t...

Best action: Winchester 94 or Marlin 336?
The "Marlin Jam" does not occur in the 336 action. I prefer the 336 over the Winchester. I put between 1600 and 2000 rounds through my Marlin 1894 each year and have done so with the same rifle for the last 10 years without ever having a round jam.

Re: met another new gun owner today at walmart...
I think that you are seeing Walmart's ongoing policy of quietly getting out of selling anything gun related. The number of locations that even sell firearms is few and far between. Walmart says that they aren't making enough money to justify carrying firearms at all locations but I don't believe it....

Re: BEST ACTION: WINCHESTER 94 or MARLIN 336?
The "Marlin Jam" only occurs after hundreds if not thousands of rounds, something CAS shooters only need worry about, plus it's a very simple fix especially if you simply smooth over the sharp snail shaped cam on the lever, and only on the 1894 model as well. The 336 action with it's round...

Re: BEST ACTION: WINCHESTER 94 or MARLIN 336?
However, it is only partially less reliable than the 94. (Dreaded Marlin Jam): Cause: the lifter in a Marlin rises on the very beginning of the rearward stroke of the lever, therefore its' timing is critical for smooth transfer of the cartridge from the lifter to the face of the bolt and movement i...

Re: 35 Rem. ammo
Yes, the 150 grain soft point is designed to be safe for tube magazines. My .35 just won't shoot the 150's worth a darn though, but if yours does these are good deer bullets.

Re: 45 Colt
Many times the shape of the bullet is dictated by how it cycles in your rifle. The SWC design just won't feed and cycle reliably in certain lever actions, thus the popularity of the RNFP design. My suggestion is for a hard cast with a wide meplat, no expansion needed for deer sized game; a .45 calib...

Re: Whats the best lever gun & calibre for comp & wild pigs?
.357 s&w magnum. 180grain bullet. above that is overkill. Anything above a 180gr. ,.357 bullet is overkill? I have to differ on your opinion there. Hogs aren't bullet proof but I have seen many of them take hits from more powerful rounds than the .357 and run like heck without going down. I'm n...

Re: Whats the best lever gun & calibre for comp & wild pigs?
Hey People, I,m looking for a centrefire lever gun for competition and pig shooting down under in oz? What range of hogs and targets will you be shooting? The pistol caliber leverguns offer great performance in killing hogs inside of 200 yards, but for target shooting you'll be limited to nothing f...

Re: Trail Boss loading data question
I use 5.5 grains to push a 200 grain RNFP lead bullet through my Marlin for CAS. Great accuracy and never any problems. I like how Trail Boss really fills up the large case of the .45 LC. Very accurate at 100 yards shooting steel buffalo targets, but you'd need to up the powder charge to impart more...

Re: what gun you wish
Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited II, stainless chambered in .45 LC. For $10 less I chose the blued model in .44; 1:38 twist vs 1:20.
And the S&W model 57, pinned and recessed barrel, wide trigger and hammer, which I sold because I thought .41 mag ammo was too hard to find.
