Re: Carry gun for an 89 year old man……good one
I bought a 28 when in my early 20's and sold it to a Friend in my 40's. I paid 240. for it and sold it to him for about the same. It was a GOOD shooter but 357's always bothered my ears more than a 45 or 44 special so it was a safe queen.

I have wondered about shooting a 38 wcf out of my 410. Then I think about a tumbling projectile can't be very effective very far. A well placed thug slug is a much better option. I have heard of the 45 colt stories and swaging a .452 down to .390 approx for most full choke guns just seems foolish.

Iv'e used 24 gr Win 296 under a Speer 240 gr soft point for years. Good accuracy,Expansion and dead deer quick.
I may switch to NOE's 240 gr Ranchdog clone I am getting good results with a dimple point (powder coated) over 23.5 gr 296.

In the archives at BPI load of the week. https://www.ballisticproducts.com/load03012021.htm
I have loaded 5 00 buck over 15 gr of 296 and covered them with buffer. Its not pressure tested so no guarantees.
It does shoot very well at 25 yards. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end.

If that's a Lee cutter maybe they will send you a factory Crimp die for free and that will solve that problem. However are you sure your crimp die doesn't work? I have never had that issue and 50 years ago I had more problems with too much crimp.
