Re: What's the easiest cartridge you've developed a load for?
The good old .30 WCF keeps coming up. It was the first cartridge I handloaded, when a junior in high school, 1970. Bought a new RCBS Junior press, RCBS dies, an RCBS powder scale (I'd been to their factory in Oroville and was a big fan) and the brand-new Speer Manual #8. Like Griff, I loaded the Sie...

What's the easiest cartridge you've developed a load for?
This is the opposite side of geobru's coin. It's pretty hard to make a mistake with a .38 Special, but my vote goes to the .44 Russian. It's simple to load for and the cartridges I have made up -- with Starline brass and the Lee 242-240-2R that copies the classic old Lyman 429-383 -- have been an ut...

A lever would be interesting. The Ruger Americans shoot very well, but I don't like the way they feed -- shove it toward the hole and the bullet nose should find the way in.

Sarge, I am using trimmed Starline .50 Alaskan for brass, slightly modified Lyman.50-70 dies and the Lyman 515141 bullet. But all is not roses. This is a tight chamber and I am thinking of trying the lighter Lee .50 "Improved" 360-grain hollow base Minié for easier loading. I had another o...

Now THIS is rifling
I have had a couple of these old Swedish rolling blocks over the years and always marvel at the rifling they used in barrels chambered for 12.7X44 R - similar to but not the same as our .50-70. When I slugged the bore with a .530 round ball lubed with Ballistol, the muzzle cut the star out of the fl...

Mark me down for the plain old plowhandles as well -- and the shorter (1851) Navy vs longer (1860) Army grip. I started grade school in 1958, and things were a lot different then than they are now. We had different rules. "You never hit a kid with glasses." "You always hold the door open for girls and women." That sort of thing. There were remnants of chivalry and some "fair play&qu...

That's a mighty handsome Bisley all right, Scott. And Walt, your Colts are mighty swell, too, in spite of the front sight. I am being picky but I just don't care that much for the big hump the sight ears make on the rear of the Blackhawk top strap. That hump says "This ain't a Colt" from a...

When I think about a sixgun I really hope to shoot accurately (as in to hunt with), I have a strong bias in favor of adjustable square notch rear and front post sights as on the Blackhawks vs. the groove and tapered blade on the Colts and their clones. But what's left of my mind tells me both styles...
