Rats. Here I thought we were getting the inside dope on obscure U.K. hunting slang. Well I, for one, am going to refer to lead shot as narfs from here on out regardless of size. Wait -- what's this? A line from Markland's "Pteryplegia," published in 1717. "Our Narfs of sev'ral sorts, half round the ...

Just a little extra innoculation with the .410 virus. I bought a small sack of paper shells a while back. Wish I had several hundred instead of just a dozen or two. The purple three-inchers are Dominions; the two-inch yellow shells are Winchester. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48092983336_9d7f...

Might have mentioned this before, but when my youngest brother went to work as an attorney for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Denver, much of his job involved negotiating the terms of the destruction of infected herds on private elk ranches. This involved culling the entire herd, dumping the ...

I will hunt this fall in a CWD-positive hunting unit here, and if I harvest a cow, she'll be tested before I touch a bite, you can bet. This is nothing to fool with.

A cloud or two, but otherwise blue skies and 90s for the next 10 days and probably up to the Fourth of July, when the Monsoon pattern begins to arrive. That said, we have had about 2.5 inches so far this year; normal i...

Re: Lever gun "nostalgia only"?

Are framing hammers used only for their "nostalgia" value because we have nail guns? I think not. If the object is a reliable tool to hunt with, leverguns -- and bolt actions that essentially date to the 1870s -- are still excellent choices. As to revolvers, does this bozo have access to a .480 semi...
