Re: Anyone ever shot a deer with a buff gun?
Owen, one other option would be to load a lighter cast bullet, say 300 grains or even 285, to duplicate the British express cartridge of the 1870s-80s. They loaded such slugs in bigger cases than yours such as the .450 3 1/4 Black Powder Express precisely for taking deer-sized game at longer ranges....

OSOK: "As a "pistol" I see it as being strictly a toy. Not dissing them - just that they aren't really a practical piece in terms of use beyond playing around - in as-issed configuration IMHO." That was my initial impression. The gun in actual use is proving far more interesting,...

Joe: I'm sure it would be totally lawful, as it is by United States Code definition already a handgun. It would require bending and reshaping the tangs, as well as reshaping the lever, though. Definitely not cheap!

.44 Magnum Ranch Hand at the Range
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/BillOregon/IMG_0509.jpg Got the new rig to the range for some initial familiarization. I had three loads, a plinker with 200-grain flat nose case bullet over a case full of Trail Boss, a 240-grain XTP over 25 grains of Power Pro 300 MP, and 10 rounds of 300-gr...

Denis: I think Nate is right about the 1:30 twist. I believe the Ruger .44 carbine has a 1:38 twist though, so 1:30 in the 12-inch RH barrel ought to stabilize the light- and mid-weights. I'll try those 300-grain XTPs in it when I can.

Very interesting thread. Special tip of the hat to Charles.
Regarding dying well before a firing squad, there is a clip somewhere of Castro's commies executing prisoners in Cuba, and there is a big fellow in white who gives a grand wave to the boyos before crumpling into the pit. Unforgettable.
