Re: Most Accurate 30-30...?
As hard as it is to believe this is the gun in my avatar at 200 yards. I was shooting off sandbags with the 2.5 power scope. The low hole was the first shot as a sighter since I had never fired it at 200 before. The high group was using the top of the duplex post as an aiming point. The second set o...

I have learned that while the Doans brand magnesium fire starters are very good, the cheap ones don't really contain much magnesium and are hard to use or don't work at all.

The Christmas Rifle
It is Christmas time again. I post this story every year and most of you all have probably seen it before, but I still like it. This is a hard, hard world. Don't miss a chance to help someone who really needs it when you can. We are here to be the hands and feet of God. We won't be taking anything w...

Re: Active Shooter training...again.
I used to carry a G19 and one extra mag all the time. I felt like I had a good defensive position with that and some offensive capability too. Over the years I have switched to a single stack 9 and one extra mag. Some of that is my back hurting and some of it is just laziness I guess. I am no longer...

Re: Nice Little Read On The .243 Win.
I have had great success using the 243. I have always used the Sierra Pro Hunter 100 gr bullet over a top load of Varget. It is a killer. It has always seemed like that load did more internal damage to a deer than a 308 or 30-30. It is a hammer.

It's Christmas time again. I post this every year so many have probably seen it before. It is a reminder that we are the Lord's hands and feet on this earth. Life is about other people so don't hesitate to do right. Remember though that love costs you. Money, tears, time. Don't be afraid to spend yo...

Re: Aging Eyes...and aiming/shooting Leverguns
My eyes aren't as good as they were. I used iron for many years but can even have a little trouble with aperture sights now. A few years ago I shot a deer with a conventionally scoped rifle and for the first time noticed the cross hairs were blurry. Talking to a guy one day he said you have to slide...

It's getting better. I left some Federal Auto Match on the shelf the other day. I bought some earlier this year but despite the name it doesn't seem to shoot any better than bulk ammo. May just be my guns. I did buy 100 rounds of CCI for $9 so that wasn't bad. Hopefully the long drought is over and ...

First fish of the year
A buddy called wanting to go fishing at a nearby pond. The property owner wanted the fish thinned out some. What kind of people would we be if we refused to help that man? We showed up today and in a couple hours had a good many. It was a good time with a lot of action. Mostly brim. A few bass and c...

My do-all 30-30 load is a top load of Varget under a Sierra ProHunter 170 grainer. This load has been very accurate and deadly for me. It has been accurate out of every gun I have tried it in. In fact once I started using Varget I stopped using any other rifle powder and now use it exclusively for 2...

I went into a local place yesterday. They had purchased a bunch of confiscation guns from some police department somewhere. I looked at a new 45-70 the other day and while it wasn't as well done as an older Marlin it was better than some of the Remlins I have seen. The buttstock fit wasn't bad. The fore end fit wasn't too bad but it still looked like it was never completely manufactured. Kind of a "fat wood" lo...

Re: Any experience with the SIG DAK trigger?
The SIG DAK trigger seems to be a love it or hate it thing. It is similar to DAO, but the difference is the hammer is already half cocked when you start pulling the trigger. That way the trigger pull is shorter and lighter than a true DAO. It makes for a nice trigger pull. Also a very simple, revolv...

Re: Beretta Storm Carbine
We had one at one time. It was a favorite but when prices went sky high I let it go. The 45 version has low capacity and proprietary mags. The 9mm version uses 92 mags which are common and hold more ammo. I would buy another but like another poster said they have become so pricey you can buy a Colt ...
