Re: Can you ID this old rifle?

It would be interesting to know what the patent is actually for.
The rimfire wasn't even invented until late 1859 (S&W) so it was predominantly percussion while the rimfire grew in size (and low pressures) until around the 1870's. This .54 has to be a rimfire.

I think it is the economy... I pretty much only look at pre-1899 pistols but I have seen a a far amount for 2-3K guns that should be 4-5 and a couple in the 5-6 that should be in the 8-9k. If I had the money to buy and wait it out now is the time, my problem is of course what I'm looking at is stuff...

I personally think that Davide Pedersoli & C. makes the finest reproductions of period firearms. Their quality is ever bit as good as the USFA guns. Plus they have been doing it for 150 years. I would love to see them make an 86, 92, or 95 Winchester. They currently make a pump action clone of ...

I also don't think the 380 is a bad round but with the size of 9mm's they are making now there is little to no advantage of a 380 vs a 9mm in size of the handgun anymore. There are valid reasons why you might prefer the 380 over the 9mm, but for availability and price of ammo you just can't beat 9mm.

Well it's not a specific handgun, it's a design to handle a double (or triple) stack 22lr magazine. If you can put 20 9mm's in a XPM should be able to get 40-50 rounds w/ 22.
