Too bad underground utilities are not mandated. Surely, it's worth the expense. According to a lineman friend of mine, underground you are much more limited in voltage, so can't do the huge transmission lines, but the biggest reason is that in many areas washouts, floods, and landslides take out mo...

Silly as it may sound one of the rifle I've always wanted to find was an Israeli converted K98 in 7.62X51.
I have a Mauser 98 converted to 7.62x51, and it is a great shooter. Not sure how to tell country or manufacturer of origin though.

At least up north when tornados hit, the downed trees are 'nice' in the sense that many of us heat with wood; sadly down there I'm guessing there's no bright-side to the downed trees. With air-conditioning being more vital there than heat, you also lose helpful shade-trees.

I found a Marlin factory barrel (for $108 8) ) from Numrich a few years ago, in 45 Colt, with factory markings, and put it on my 1970's 1894 in 44 Mag. ALL the other parts are the same between those chamberings, so it was an easy way to get a round-barreled 1894 in 45 Colt without big bucks. The gun...

Guns are inaccurate if they don't have free-floated barrels, or if they don't have precision bedding, or specially-lapped bolt-lugs, and if the barrel isn't cryogenically treated it is usually not going to be very accurate. I have an Encore barrel in 300 Blackout from https://matchgrademachine.com, 16" and threaded for a suppressor, but came with a nice 'brake' on it. With a folding stock, that would be a great backpack gun. Get a fast twist so you can use subsonic and it isn't even that noisy without a suppressor.
