I was sorry to hear that Marvin is not so good a man anymore. He always acted a little like a want-to-be tough guy, but I figured he was ok. If I go back, I will avoid the store now, thanks Pharmseller. Just because I had a bad experience doesn't mean you should avoid him. Like they say, your milea...

It was opening day in Oregon, 1982. The day before my 19th birthday. I was carrying my first rifle, a Winchester model 70 XTR in .30/06, bought entirely by me from earnings from my job as a bottle sorter at the local Mayfair grocery store, and augmented by my other job as a tree planter (paid by the...

Here's a few pics. Free XS Ghost Ring front and rear sight
Free to good home, one XS Ghost Ring set that came off my 1894C. The front sight is fine, just slightly boogered screw heads. The rear sight needs a new mounting screw, as I had to drill out the screw I installed with loc-tite. Hey, it's free, so no complaining. Merry Christmas.

Congrats on the hunt. Hate to rain on the parade, but I'ld recommend editing the gun info a tad. That 357 won't qualify as legal for biggame, has to make 500 ftlbs at 100 yds from a handgun before it'll qualify in a rifle. Not many 357 loads will do that. Don, All should be safe with this loa...

One of the reasons for my analysis is for my nephew, who recently turned 16. He has yet to shoot a deer but he realy wants to. Several times at the range his groups would be all over the place. When I would talk to him about the mechanics of his shooting he described his anxiety over his self-impose...

Real-life kill zone analysis and question
After butchering my mulie buck I took a tape measure to the chest cavity to determine a real kill zone. I measured the distance from the bottom of the spine to just inside the brisket, even with the point of the shoulder. I then measured from the point of the shoulder rearward to the diaphragm. Keep...

Butchering recap: 47 FoodSaver bags later, the beast is in the freezer. 33 bags of assorted steaks (backstrap, round, sirloin, etc) and 14 bags of burger, no fat added. Man, he cut up nicely! I'm going to wait for my son to get home to cut the antlers out of the skull. I took the hide to the taxider...

Opening day mulie success with 348 and pics
Saturday 9/29 was opening day for deer here in Oregon. I was hunting mule deer with my dad south of Bend. I carried my new to me Browning repro 348 with factory sights, loaded with gordylew's 200 grain Silvertips. Right at first light a nice buck got kicked up by another hunter. As luck (or preparat...

Albany, OR gunshow and a NIB Browning 348 carbine
I'll probably be at the Albany gunshow this weekend (Sunday) trying to find a new home for my NIB Browning model 71 carbine. I'm thinking $900.
Any opinions? Priced correctly?

Gonna scope my 1894C
I really enjoy shooting my 1894C, but I have come to realize that I would have more fun if it had a scope. I'll keep my Rossi 92 (pre-safety) 357 with iron sights, but I am sure I would have more fun with the Marlin if it wore glass. I am no stranger to scopes on bolt rifles but in case the rules ar...
