Here is another question for you folks that I've been wondering about too. Is the grip frame of the Ruger BH an exact copy of the Colt SAA? Or does the Ruger grip frame have minor differences from the Colt's dimensions?
Thanks for the help folks. I'll just mess around with it to see what I like best. J Miller I learned pretty quick about only using the pad of the finger as you explained.
I'm new to shooting SA revolvers and I'm wondering what is the proper grip to use. Am I supposed to curl my pinky around the bottom of the grip frame, or grip it like I would a DA revolver?
madman, here is an article written by Glen Fryxell on the various SSK bullets. The 300gr SSK .41 bullet churned up 1376fps from his 7 1/2" Ruger RH. http://www.lasc.us/FryxellBulletsOfSSK.htm
336A , I believe that if you keep the range to 50 yds or so, it'll be a pretty tough deal to keep one of those bullets in a broadside hog. They'll blow thru about 8 inches of chinese elm at 25 yds. Strectch I liked lilgun with those heavy slugs in the 41, but in the little blackhawk the recoil was ...
I like my 41 because it is different. It will do everything that a 44 will. Yes, I said that. It will do everything that a 44 will. Not knocking a .41mag but when you can shoot 340 gr. L.F.N. - G.C. (1,478 fps/M.E. 1,649 ft. lbs.) loads from a 7" barrel .41mag handgun let me know! No,it won't ...
It's true when loaded to full power loads there's little difference in felt recoil between the 41 and 44. The 41 really shines when you load a 210ish gr cast bullet (keith style) to around 900 fps. Comfortable to shoot all day accurate as can be , and will penetrate like bunker buster bomb. I haven...
I like my 41 because it is different. It will do everything that a 44 will. Yes, I said that. It will do everything that a 44 will. Two hundredths of an inch of bullet diameter isn't enough to matter in the real world. With comparable bullets, the 41 will kill anything that the 44 will. I like my 4...
It seems when ever a discussion comes up for revolver rounds a lot of folks are quick to dismiss the .41 in favor of other cartridges. The main complaint is that it is expensive or uncommon and to that I say horse pucky. Common it ain't so no need lookin' at Wally World, but then again I've never se...
I'll keep that in mind adirondak, right now I'm not going to sweat it as the gun is brand spanking new. I doubt that I'll have much of a problem as the majority of the loads that this gun will see is a 215gr SWC over 8.5gr of Unique. Much like your BH this one shoots great when the knuckle head beh...
Hello folks I've got a couple of questions for our GA residents regarding hunting in this fine state. I just moved here from NY and reading through the GA Hunting Regulation handbook is more confussing than NY beleive it or not, these are my questions. 1. The regulation states that only expanding am...

Thank you fellas' for your help very appreciated. I knda figured it was probably nothin' but I figured I better ask just in case I was wrong, which happens a lot. Just don't tell the wife that
Hello again folks I have a quick question for you. I was reading over the real guns article on the Ruger BH .41 mag. In the article he stated that his BH had had no wiggle at full lock up so I decided to check mine. Here is my question for those of you that own Rugers are your revolvers bank vault t...
I got the itch for a Ruger BH this year as well, I ended up getting a .41 mag with the 4 5/8" barrel. It is my favorite big bore revolver cartridge however the .44SPL was a strong contender. I do reload for it but even if I didn't I would have still bought it. There is plenty of ammo offered fo...
Good morning stretch the barrel length is 4/58" on my BH. You would have thought I was trying to signal Mars or something with those 2400 loads :D What exacerbated my problem with the stocks is I was shooting at a indoor range and it was warm in there (first time shooting there). I'm still gett...
Just got back from the range with my new Ruger .41 magnum BH and have this to report. The gun is without doubt very accurate but the user does not possess the skill to take advantage of it, I seemed to keep pulling my shots to the left for some reason. The grips leave a heck of a lot to be desired a...
Does anyone here have any experience with this bullet and 2400? Also how well do these bullets work on game such little piggy's? Right now I have some loaded on top of 18gr and 18.5gr of 2400 to try in my new Ruger BH.
I dug out a box of Hornady XTP-HP .41 cal bullets that I've had for some time. Unfortunately some 70 bullets are very badly oxidized. So I have a couple of questions. First are they safe to load and shoot without causing unsafe pressure spikes? If not then is it safe to use BRASO on them?
Just got the Ruger BH .41 magnum yesterday. The fit and finish is great as far as I can tell, however this is my first single acton and first Ruger. The new plastic grips seem to fit my hand better than the older wood grips that I handeled in the past. I can't wait to put some lead down range with t...
I ordered it last Thursday so it should be here this week. I plan on carrying it when I go after wily hogs. I have some 2400 and 250 215gr SWC from Lead Heads. Does anyone have any load data for this combo I can't seem to find any.
My favorite .38 SPL load is a 158gr SWC over 4.6gr of Unique, this should be close to 850fps from a 4" revolver. I wouldn't go below 4.5gr with Unique as the pressures are lower and it tends to be sooty. At 4.5gr and above though I haven't had a problem. I tried the famous 5gr of Unique but fou...
I use 150gr bullets for all around use as I feel they shoot flatter and expand a little better than the 170's plus they are more accurate out of my rifle. However if I were going after game larger than deer sized game I'd use the 170gr bullets, the 170gr loads shoot about 1.5-1.75" for me at 10...
I'm hoping that I can get some info from you fine folks here in regards to this ammo. I've been using this ammo for several years now, not because it has a fancy schmancy bonded core but due to it's accuracy from my rifle. This past Sunday I got a nice sized doe, the shot was about 50 yards. The bul...
We have been having one heck of a season up here in Northern NY. If I had to guess I'd say that the avg weight for a mature WhiteTail buck is around 150 pounds. Look here there are some pretty big deer pictured here. There are I believe 4 pages so scroll down till you next page. There are a few that...
I've always held the opinion that the 150gr bullet from a .30 WCF was better than the 170gr bullets for deer sized game as long as the rifle shot them reasonably well. I'm very fortunate in that my Marlin 336 shoots 150gr and 160gr Hornady LE very well and 170gr Win PP shoot about 1.5"-1.75&quo...
Thanks fellas, theres nothing better than getting a deer with a levergun IMHO. I haven't hunted with anything but leverguns since 2003 and don't plan to change either. As for wives hows that saying go... oh yeah can't live with em' and can't live without em'
Well I got up at 5:00 and made myself some eggs, bacon and put on a pot of coffee. I originaly was going to take my 336A 30-30 but when I stepped outside it was sprinkleing a little bit. So I turned around went back upstairs and replaced my 336A for my 1894SS .44 mag, hey thats what I bought it for ...
I use either a S&W M60 no dash with Rem 158gr +P SWCHP in a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar pancake, or my S&W M10 for sidearms. Most of the time though I take my S&W M10 heavy barrel loaded with a SWC doing about 850fps along with 3 speed loaders of the same. Until recently I packed the M10...
Thanks for the help folks. I don't muh care for paddle holsters, that new Range Master from Simply Rugged looks very enticing. Anyone here have any experience with this holster?
Good evening folks, was hoping that we could talk about holsters a little bit. A while back I picked up a Simply Rugged Sour Dough pancake holster for my S&W M10. I picked this holster due to all of the great things that people had say about them. Well IMHO it makes a great holster where conceal...
And when all is said and done,...there's nothing wrong with shooting factory ammo. Sometimes that is the correct solution..! Very true Deerwhacker. I've been using this ammo ever since it has come out, not due to it being a bonded core bullet but because of the accuracy. They are a tough bullet tho...
336A, Well, you've eliminated two of the three variables. Yourself and the rifle. You know your ammo needs more work. Use the factory ammo to get meat this season and work on your hand loads in the future. When I started hand loading I did what missionary5155 said, I worked to duplicate the factory...
Thanks 86er that is what I thought. I guess if I ever feel the need for real deep penetration I'll stick with the Nosler 170gr Partition. I believe that there is a member here that posts sometimes by the name of T.R. He wrote of his success using the .30-30 on a 400# Red Stag using Win 170gr PP ammo...

86er Do you have any first hand experience with the Fed 170gr fusion? If so what is your opinion of it compared to other 170gr bullets? Is it as hard as the speer in between or really soft?
Yup went to the range again with my 336A to get her dialed for the upcoming season. Tried out some more of my hand loads and they were pathetic. They were inconsistent and all over the place, there was a lot of good advice here the last time I posted about this to include possible scope issues. Here...
Whooo Hooo the rain let up long enough for me to slip out into the woods for a bit. I was slipping along through the woods with my Henry .22 towards one of the hay fields in hopes of finding some squacks but no dice. I was about 50 to 75 yd from reaching the hay field when I noticed a deer walking a...
