I believe so, but it was also added to the Winchester Model 70 line as well. Think the Winchester line was later, but I'll defer to the Model 70 experts on this one.

My experience with a LH Browning A-Bolt II Stainless Stalker in 30 aught 6 is that it has always put the bullets exactly where I aimed. A few deer and a moose can attest to it's effectiveness.

As far as rifles, if it is a repeater centerfire, it has to be registered. However, a bill has just been voted on in Parliament to abolish the registration of rifles, and it has passed first reading by a healthy margin. I've found cigarette filters stuck in cases on occasion. Given the long Canadian winters, no reason not to inspect every case.

For now, I'd have to favor the 44-40. Thank you to Kirk for selling his 1892 made in 1914 to me. Those of you who have his Old Winchesters calendar will recognize it as the December 2009 rifle. I fully expect to have a blast plinking, close quarter varminting and deer hunting when it arrives. :D

With the reformed brass, you may not be resizing all the way to the rim - your observations confirm this. Ken Waters mentioned this as an issue with his 1886 in 40-65 and found that using a Lyman X-17 shell holder worked. Or, you could file down a shell holder to allow you to resize more of the base...

In general not in Alberta, Canada. However if you're doing Camp Wainwright, hunter orange is manditory.

If I get a big buck, its usually hung head down for a week, then butchered. Meat does are hung either head up or down and usually butchered within 24 hours of being harvested.

I think it more likely that it was rebarreled to 32 WS some time later. The 32 WS was not introduced until 1902 as that is when it first appeared in the Winchester catalog. The polishing room records came out within the past couple years or so. However, it's been known for a longer period of time that George Madis' dating of Winchesters in some cases was out by several years. The existing factory records along with the polishing room records will help correct this.

My take on this is that the manufacturers got the design and alloys right with the 30-30 with the sweet spot for speed 1600-1800 fps at about 75-125 yards, give or take a few yards or so.

I'm satisfied with the performance I'm getting.
