Re: OT - Butchering a Russian... (91/30 to 91/59ish)

Well, just did that. No joy. I'm hard pressed to imagine that the sight base is integral to the barrel, but 5 min with a propane torch did nada. You need a micro torch or something a lot hotter than propane, you need to melt the old solder which I doubt is silver, but it still takes a lot of heat. ...

I use pure Tung oil to finish a couple of walnut stocks I had bought for my Mausers. Do not cut or mix anything to the tung oil, just put it on and keep working it till the wood absorbs it and it is tacky. Then let dry. Joe, A non-FFL holder can ship to a FFL, BUT, it is the receiving FFL that the BATF will go after. And for the transfer fee, its not worth the hassel of logging in a drivers license as legal proof. Just to clarify, the coaxial cable is shielded, and should be bonded to electrical ground. Usually at the point of entry where all of your utilities come in to your house.

Just check with a ohmmeter, one side of the coaxial shield, and one side to known good good ground.

If you shoot Mosin Nagants, you will get the "sticky bolt" caused by the coating melting off the cases as the chamber heats up.

I like to shoot the copper washed ammo or the zinc washed cases that Wolf and other put out, makes cleaning much easier.
