I have seen strange numbers from my chronograph on clear bright blue sky days. Seems to work more consistently when it is overcast for some reason.
It is electronic .......what could possibly go wrong?

My father in law gave me a Buck 110 about 40 years ago, shortly after my wife and I were married. That knife has been used to process many deer and hogs over the years, and it is still in great condition. I am planning to give it to my new son in law soon, creating a kind of family tradition. I have been shooting the AR more lately than the 30-30, typically at hogs. I can reload the AR rounds since they use small rifle primers, which have become available again. Large rifle primers for the 30-30 are still not available.

I would not consider a half inch off the stock to be normal or desirable.

One simply needs to remember that the foundation of news reporting rests on the three "C"s.
Conflict
Controversy
Catastrophe
"Good news" does not fit into any of those categories, and therefore it seldom makes it to the surface.

I know that it can be done, but a lot may depend on the particular cemetery and exactly how the casket was buried in the plot. Cremains do not generally have to be buried nearly as deep as a casket, so there may be some leeway there. You would need to contact the director of the particular cemetery ...
