Re: Favorite 22 Hornet components?

I am one of the Lil'gun fans. A great powder for the Hornet. I am also a big fan of the 40 gr VMax. I suspect the 40 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip would also be a winner. The advantage you have with a single shot handi is that you are not limited to the saami spec COAL. The 35 gr VMax was invented for the...

My H&R has been punched out to k-hornet the brass behaves better. I bought a Handi Rifle in 22 hornet about 3-4 years ago. I had done a lot of reading before the purchase and was planning to ream it to a K-Hornet. BUT, it shoots soooo good, I hate to mess with it. So, I never did. I use 40 gr V...

Lyman #48 calls for a min of 4.5 grains of Red Dot with a 255 LFN for 550 fps. Max is 6.0 for 780 fps. I have some old RCBS data for their 255 SWC, 5.5 to 6.5 gr of Red Dot. The Barnes loading data says:
44 gr RL15 2733 fps
48 gr RL15 2935 fps
For their 150 gr copper TSX.
It looks like the Hornady copper bullets are very similar.

I extrapolated that 47 gr would give you 2883. Pretty close to your measured 2892.
