Hobie,
Thanks for the input. The metal and wood are fairly unmarked, with just a little wear showing. I was thinking about $325, so you confirmed my price. No one else has jumped in, so apparently you are right on. Thanks again.

What is my 1894 worth?
I have a buddy who is trying to trade me out of my Marlin 1894 carbine. It is a pre-safety made in the mid 70's. In good shape in .44 mag. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Lever gun for defense
Where is the lever on that P9? Just kidding. I like the lever gun for a lot of reasons, mostly because I'm a cowboy wannabe. If I went away from that I might go to a Beretta Storm or an AR. I've never had any experience with the Ruger or the Marlin camp guns, although I did like the mini 14 I had at...

Re: Lever gun for defense
Thanks for all the replies. I ended up with a Marlin 1894 in .44 magnum. I think it was made in the 1970's. It is in good shape, with some nice walnut and no safety of any kind. The barrel is 20 inches long. I really like the gun, and it seems very accurate. I also have the advantage of having a fri...

Figured it out
Think I have a plan. I live in the country, and don't reload. Think I will go with a .30.30, then plan on finding a matching .357 down the road. Thanks for all the input. BTW, I defended the lever action to a friend who insisted I needed an AR,. AK, SKS, HK, or some other alphabet soup gun. Apprecia...

Single six
I have a stainless single six in 4 5/8 barrel (Lipseys) and I really like it for packing. If you are shooting more than packing, my Buckmark seems to group better. I think most quality semi autos shoot better. But, I'm a cowboy, so the single six usually gets the nod.

Leverbob
Leverbob,
I strongly agree with your first two choices. The wife and I study the Chambers book together every morning. Gives us a great outlook on the rest of the day and reminds us who we are. Where can I find the 30-30 book by Fadala? thanks

Thanks
Thanks for the tip, Jim. I read the article. It was very informative, and reassured me I have made the right decision in my choice of gun. The fact the lever gun seemed to work well in the urban combat scenario gives me confidence. Now to practice!

Thanks
Thenks for the replies, gentlemen. I appreciate no one jumped on me for the question. I cruise three or four other forums, and one I have quit because it seems every time someone asks a question they get insulted somehow. You all seem like a great bunch. Thanks again. I currently have a Marlin 336 I...

Lara Croft
In one of the Lara Croft Tomb Raider movies it shows riding a horse through a primitve type training range shooting a short barrelled lever gun. Looks like a Winchester ranger if I remember right. Pretty cool! I like that Angelina!

Lever gun for defense
I am new on the forum, as of today, and have a question. This has probably been asked before, but as I said, I'm new. I am not the black rifle type, but would like a self defense rifle. I'm thinking with the quick multiple shot capability, the lever gun would be good. It's worked for almost 150 year...
