Re: 30-30 Stuff

I've heard rumors about the American Indians hunting game like deer, elk, and bison before the white man came to America.
I often wonder how they did that, considering the 300 WinMag wasn't invented until 1963, and anything less than that wouldn't have been up to the task.

Re: anyone use reduced 357 loads?

In my Marlin cowboy I use a 357 case with a 180 gr Accurate 36-175-B and 5.4 gr of AP70 (unique and Universal are similar). 100 meter rams go down like they were hit by a train. A 158 gr and 6.4 gr of AP70 also works well. For several years I used the 180 gr and 5 gr of Trailboss. They were accurate...

94 Winchester in 44-40

We seem to get a few Winchester 94s on the used gun market over here in 44-40. With the 94 being designed for a 30-30 length cartridge, is the 44-40 in this action able to be loaded with a longer oal than it is in the 92, or 73? I'd be curious to know if it could be loaded with 240gr - 250gr without...

I tried Lil'gun a few years ago, but like many others, I found that the barrel heated up too much. On a hunting rifle this would not be an issue, but when you shoot 10 round strings, in target or silhouette matches, the barrel got too hot to touch. I now use W296 with no complaints.
