I got told once not to use the blazer ammo so I dont. I couldn't afford to shoot factory ammo for target practice at the price they charge on this side of the big puddle. I use a handload of 125gr tc and 6.2gr unique. Different rifles like different things, some will do 38 special without any hiccup...

The 44 should be a whole lot cheaper to shoot, and if you've become a recoil wimp in your old age like I have you'd load them both down to 357 levels anyway, so I'd vote 357   I shot both the 44 and 45-70 some years ago and I did notice that while the 45-70 recoils backwards the 44 recoile...

I guess you could ask two questions to decide whether it should or shouldn't be allowed. 1/ is it humane 2/ is it ethical If you can answer yes to both questions, whats wrong with it? I guess the old steel jaw traps would not really rate as humane. I used to use them for rabbits when I was young and...

My lee manual lists a maximum load of reloder15 at 2330fps for the 170 gn , so it would depend on whether your rifle can handle a higher pressure SAFELY. No hog hunting experience but just ran your 200gr @ 1230fps load through my energy calculator and came up with 672 ft lb. My 357 with a 158gr @ 1700fps will produce 1012 ft lb. Figures like that sure make the 44-40 look anaemic, but of course it is going to put a 30% bigger hole in the pig and that ...

Why wouldn't you? A 200gr lump of lead at about 1200 fps is going to turn pig into pork today just as it did back in 1873. You will probably end up with a 44 cal hole in one side and a slightly bigger hole out the other side and that leaves a lot of space for blood to pour out of. If you hand load a...
