Re: Winchester/Miroku Model 71

So I received my Model 71 Deluxe yesterday.... Fit and finish is not as good as my Browning 71. Close, but not as good. Checkering is nice with sharp points and no runover, the border of the checkering is a little sloppy in places but so were the originals. Spur at the top of the buttplate is not in...

Re: Winchester/Miroku Model 71

Winchester/Miroku guns are fantastic. I first bought one of their 32-20 rifles a few years ago and really liked it. Since then I picked up a 45 colt, 44 Mag, a .357 SRC and a really neat .357, 16" barrel take down model. I guess I would also prefer no rebound hammer or tang safety, but these a...

Re: Waiting for the Winchester/Miroku 71

They dropped the Silvertip loading and are now loading a 200 grain Power-Point. I think they dropped all of the old Silvertip loads in the rifle calibers because none are listed. I got tired of waiting and found a 71 made in 1955. This rifle had a recoil pad installed and it needs it. I tried 64 gr...

Re: Waiting for the Winchester/Miroku 71

I assumed Proof load. It surprised me when I read that USRA contracted out with several custom load firms for Proof loads. I would have assumed Winchester Ammunition would have produced Proof and regular ammunition for them. My understanding on the 25-35 is the rifles were not in production long en...

Re: Waiting for the Winchester/Miroku 71

He never said "Proof Loads" but I assumed that's what he meant when he said ammo to "test the rifles". I would love it if Winchester would release a real picture of the Deluxe.....

Waiting for the Winchester/Miroku 71

I am getting tired of waiting so I called Winchester the other day. I was told that the delay was due to Olin not having any ammo to test the rifles. Winchester/FN had to get someone else to make the ammo for the tests. I believe he said they had A Square make the ammo (I called with two kids runnin...

Re: Winchester/Miroku Model 71

Hi all. The new 71 activity got me to sign up after years of lurking. Redcoat and I used to email back and forth about various leverguns (especially M71's) but I never joined or posted here. I am sorry he didn't get to see the reissue of these fine rifles (alas, no word on a 22 inch barrel as he wis...
