Yea it is funny that the same bullet/ velocity combo from a handgun can kill anything that walks but put it in a rifle and it's inadequate. Go figure.

I would suggest you try the original size first, most likely 6-48, can be had fron Brownells, but if you order, go ahead and get the drill and tap for 8-40, which is what Marlin uses. Maybe the crimp IS TOO heavy. You might have created a bulge in the brass right below the crimp, preventing it from cycling properly.
